Not a systemic issue - some users are unable to save Infomaker reports as PDF files. They receive an error pop-up:
"Unable to save report data to <save_location>. Disk may be full or write-protected or PDF capability is not installed"
All client machines are the same build so I don't think there is missing functionality if some users can save to PDF and some can't.
I'll submit a ticket as well just in case it is a real technical issue
Hi try this
Copy the PBVM files from the server your client files sit on to the local drive of the computer with the problems. (Save over the old file if it exists)
Using the Add Printer Wizard add a local printer to the computer, selecting have disk when asked to install software. Browse to the drive that you saved the PBVM folder to, select the drivers folder within this file and then open the .INF file in there.
Select Acrobat Distiller and keep the existing driver, rename the Printer as Sybase DataWindows PS and finish the Wizard.
This should then enable you to save PDF's; it has worked on all computers here that have had this issue.
Thanks for the reply -
All client machines already have the PBVM folder local and it is automatically updated with the latest files from the server via script when Tessitura is opened on the client.
So in my case I will need to update the server PBVM\driver\ADIST5.inf file. What exactly do I need to edit in the .ini file? Sorry I don't understand.
Then, it looks like I need to add a new local printer? I thought that application created that automagically at run time when saving as PDF.
Thanks very much - I haven't had my daily dose of Monster yet so I'm a bit sluggish :)
Hi Nathan,
When we had the issue here I found that the easiest way to fix this was to install a new printer using the Acrobat Distiller driver. Set this to print to file and call it Sybase Datawindow PS.
If you are happy the PBVM is up to date then just delete the printer that they have on their machine to save PDF’s and re-add the printer using Acrobat Distiller, set as print to file and name as Sybase DataWindow PS. Caryl

The automagic part of the process has never worked for us. We don't use the Save As PDF often but each time someone requests it, I end up adding the printer manually. I've gotten the same information that the act of requesting the report as a PDF should auto-install the Sybase printer, but I've never seen it happen.
No joy when adding the printer - very odd.
I made the user a local admin (Windows XP btw) and still failed on this machine.
Hi Nathan, delete the old PDF printer and simply follow the instructions given in the attached file to add a new PDF printer. You may need to login as Admin if the affected user does not have enough privilege to add/delete new printer. This always worked for us. Someone posted it in a previous mail.
Hope this helps,
Mo

the logic behind the scene is
1, Informaker need to find a printer named Sybase DataWindow PS.
2, this printer has to be a virtual PDF creator printer.
3, this printer has to be in Windows Printers List.
You can meet all these three requirements, it won't fail to save as pdf in a possible folder.

Hi Ben-- If you use the Reply link at the top of a post rather than the Quick Reply, you can attach files in the "Options" tab/link.
thankstodd
Another option to try would be:
1) On the computer where the printer driver will not install properly, install another Postscript Printer--such as AppleLaserWriter II NTX v51.8.
2) Rename the newly installed Apple printer to "Sybase Datawindow PS" on the computer.
3) Then see if you can save a report as a PDF on the Report Server machine.
Sometimes this solves the issue, even if downloading the driver from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=1500&fileID=1438 does not.
We are unable to get pdf printing to work on Vista machines.
When I follow the second link above it seems to indicate that the new version of powerbuilder would come with updated print drivers, but I can't find them?
Our PBVM\drivers folder has Adobe Distiller drivers dated 2/14/03, which seems like they could be too old for Vista.
Has anyone come up with other Vista workarounds?
Phil

The Bullzip PDF Printer works as a Microsoft Windows printer and allows you to write PDF documents from virtually any Microsoft Windows application.
This program is FREEWARE with limitations, which means that it is FREE for personal and commercial use up to 10 users. It does not contain any advertising or popups. For commercial applications with more that 10 users there is a commercial version of the product available at www.biopdf.com.
The installation of this program is very simple. Just follow the few steps listed here:
You can try this if want to.
Yes, that worked!
Thank you Ben.
