Same Day Web Web Sales: What time does yours turn off?

Hello, All -

We are reviewing some policies and procedures and I was wondering from all of you:

How many hours/minutes/days to you turn off web sales for a performance?  One hour? Two Hours?  Etc?

Inquireing minds want to know.

  • At the Center for the Performing Arts, we do right at performance time for web transactions while the Box Office stays open through the first half hour of each performance.  Aside from having to keep an eye on any last minute purchases for Will Call, there have been few to no issues.

For pre-sold Valet passes, though, we cut them off 1 week prior seeing as the valet pass cannot be picked up at Will Call and most choose to have them mailed.  Few complaints there, too.  Every once in a while patrons call in for a print at home Valet pass within the week of, and our staff is happy to do that.

At Broadway Rose, we cut off web sales 90 minutes before curtain.  Then our Quick Sale MOS turns on, and our lobby opens for walk-up sales.  Interesting conversation!

  • At the Park Avenue Armory in NYC we do 1 hour before. Very interested to hear everyone's responses!

  • We actually do at performance time, but we only have limited-to-zero availability by then anyway.  But for dining reservations, it’s 2hrs prior.

    Cheers,

  • Science Museum of MN used to turn them off 2 hours before the show. We ended up letting it run, though, and it's been fine as far as I know. Even helps when we're slammed and have a line; people will jump on their phones from the lobby and get a web ticket.

  • Hey all!

This conversation is prompting me to look at the online sales patterns to see if we’re capturing any last minute buyers.

To answer your question, we used to cut sales off at midnight the night before. With Tessitura, we let online sales happen until just after curtain. With PAH functionality and the BO open, it’s been a fine experience for all.

  • We cut off two hours before the show but we are currently starting to implement PAH and TNMP My Tickets so we may (or may not) revisit this and shorten the amount of time once those are up and running.

  • This is an interesting thread. We are considering eliminating our 30 minute rule to be able to capture last minute sales at our kiosks. Glad to learn it is working out for many. Roberta

  • We cut-off web sales 2 hours prior to a concert so that Box Office can prepare the Will Call. We don't use PAH since we don't have N-Scan and this has worked well for us thus far.

  • We have Web sales open right until show time. With NScan and TNMP, this has been very easy; with the added bonus that our patrons seem to like having their tickets on their mobile devices.

  • For our main stage performances you can buy right up to performance time. Other ancillary items such as hearing assistance receivers/tours etc. have in advance cut off times.

  • Here at The 5th, we cut off all web sales at one hour to curtain.

  • THANK YOU for everyone's feedback! Much appreciated!

Our sales team has decided to run an open ended test to have our web site sell tickets up until curtain time. Once we're confident (or not...) of this new cut off time we'll continue to keep it (or not...).

Hope to see you all at TLCC2017!
