Fees

Hi All,

We're beginning the process of re-thinking our fee structure. Currently we charge a per ticket fee by phone, a one time order fee online, and no fees in person. We've thought about rolling fees into the ticket price, but we would like to hear what other organizations are doing with their fees, and why. I'd appreciate any input on this.

Thanks,

Amber Gale

  • Hi Amber,

We went through a similar process a few years ago. We had the exact same set-up that you currently have but decided to remove the one time online order fee as we wanted to encourage web sales. We now have the same per ticket fee for all phone and web sales. I was concerned that we were losing the revenue from the online order fee so I increased our per ticket fees by $1 to account for this. At the same time we introduced a $1.50 per order mail fee to cover the costs of sending tickets by regular mail, and also to increase Print at Home adoption.

I have thought about implementing a fee for in person sales since that is actually the most expensive route for someone to buy a ticket from us in terms of staffing costs, etc. Most of the other arts organizations in Toronto offer no fee in person sales so I've held off making that change as we would be out of sync, but it's likely something we will explore in the future.

  • Just stepping in here before we get yelled at, but listing exact fee amounts I think would be in violation of some collusion law.  Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

  • That did cross my mind as well John! I'll delete my question

  • We charge per ticket fees for online and phone sales for single tickets; no fees in person. Subscribers never pay fees. We've also thought about rolling the fee into the ticket price, by building them as separate layers, but it's a continuing conversation so I'd also love to hear other organizations' approaches.

  • Hi Amber,
For many years we had no external booking fees for our customers and included inhouse management costs in the pricing. We had an external exchange and postage fee for single ticket buyers.
A few years ago a revenue raising decision was made to add on fees, after much discussion the decision was made to have transaction/postage fee for all ticket purchases above a set amount. Currently that is set at $35, this was to ensure we didn't charge those purchasing cheap concerts such as our children's concerts which we subsidise to keep accessible to all. This covers postage fee as well. This fee is the same across all channels.
We charge an exchange fee for single ticket buyers, this service is free for subscribers.
