Element Gateway Review

We are looking to switch to the Element Gateway from TranScend.  For those of you using Element Gateway, how is it working for you?  Any issues?  Setup problems?  Reconciliation problems?

My business manager is concerned with their ACH only requirement for fee payments.  Can anyone speak to how that ACH process is going for you?

Replies here or via email would be fine. jfreiberg@grandtheater.org

Thanks

  • Hi Joel,

We did experience a problem with the encrypted IDTECH credit card swipers. You can't use them with controlled batches so your Development team would not be able to use them. Also, the only place that the credit card information is stored is on an actual order. Eventually, there will be functionality for credit card tokenization but I don't believe that happens until V12.5. As far as processing, it's very seamless. Your staff will most likely not even know you switched. I do know that our Finance team had to figure out a new way to pull the transaction information from Element as it is generated in a different fashion then from Transcend.

    I hope that helps.

  • Joel,
The set up was pretty easy because we are on RAMP...so grateful for them. The only issue was that we needed new merchant account numbers set up. We just went LIVE April 1, so far so good.
We could not get the approval to do the ACH so we negotiated to be billed each month. After we got started, their business office has allowed us to call each month with a credit card but we couldn't get that in the contract.

    Hope it helps,
    Janna

I would be interested to hear what your Finance team is doing to pull transaction information, as our Finance team is looking to me for guidance on best ways to do this.
We had a custom report in use with Transcend, but it relied on stored data – so it’s no use now.

See TASK solution 32, specifically the section "Element_Data_Reporting_Utility". Essential for all orgs on Element, imho.

We had a custom report with Transcend as well that pulled data into a pivot table and provided the data that was needed to reconcile against our monthly statements. Since moving to Element, I had our IT team add a few new fields to the Transactions by Posting report (I think the most helpful field we added was transaction date). This provided almost the exact same data to put into a pivot table and has been used for the past several months and is working perfectly.

Nice. We also had a custom report we used with Transcend, and one of my first tasks after we got the Element_Data_Reporting_Utility working was to re-create that report to use with that local Element data. Custom reporting is even more important/useful with Element than it was with Transcend...

  • Christopher,

We just made our switch this morning (and as Janna said, thank goodness for RAMP!!).

  • Janna, you mentioned you needed new MIDs. We are using TSYS/Elavon for processing, and as far as I can tell we can use the same MID info with both (Element in Gateway mode).

Did you switch to Element as your processor, which required the new Merchant IDs?

    Thanks,

    dave

  • We are still using BOA and Elavon for our merchant accounts. The Elavon accounts were fine and we did not need new Merchant numbers but we had to switch to a different platform on BOA for security reasons so we needed new merchant numbers for all of our BOA accounts. If you need more info, let me know.
