I'm very curious to know how other organizations are structured in terms of Tessitura-related roles especially at the management level. Is there one (or more?) person who has oversight and management of all things Tessitura? If so, what is their title and whom do they report to? Do you have a division/department separate from IT that is responsible for Tessitura/CRM? I'm particularly interested in hearing from small to mid-size organizations - staff of 30-50 and annual budget of $5-10mil. What about the job title for people who "do it all" at smaller organizations - oversight, database administration, application specialist, new feature implementation, integrations (email/web), data analysis and reporting, training, etc.)
Thanks!
Hi Odele!
Previously, I worked at a small producing theatre (annual operating budget of $8mil at the time I worked there.) The position I held was titled "Data Systems Manager," and I was responsible for everything you listed in your post, plus building all of their performances and packages for each season. I was technically part of both the Marketing and Development departments (or at least that's how my payroll was budgeted), but reported to the Associate Director of Marketing as my immediate supervisor.
Generally, I would train a point person to be a Power User in each department at the organization that used Tessitura (marketing, ticketing, development, education, finance) so that they could in turn train any incoming staff as needed. They outsource general IT support, but I was often pulled in to handle non-Tessitura issues simply because I was physically present and had a tech-related job.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Best,
Darryl
We are a small-ish theatre (though we are the largest in our region). We have about 35 full time staff and an operating budget around $12 million. Our basic IT is provided by our building facilitator (we used to be part of a consortium but left a few years ago so we could be masters of our own destiny), but my small team (myself and one direct report) manage all things Tessitura-related. My title is "Database and Systems Manager" and it encompasses pretty much everything you list above. Additionally, I prepare our annual price matrix (and help to provide guidance regarding prices) and I manage our dynamic revenue and yield management strategy and implementation. A jack of all trades, master of none for sure!
Organizationally, my team is part of the Audience Development team which includes our Marketing, Communications, and Audience Services/Box Office teams. I report to our VP of Audience Development (who reports to our Executive Director).
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out!

Hi Odele.
We are about 35 to 40 staff mixture of FT and PT. and approx $12M. Our business is across performance, classes and tertiary education. We have external IT.
I'm CRM and Ticketing Manager and i started to bring Ticketing in house and implement TNEW. For 2 years i was the sole Tessitura Superuser, responsible for all reporting, builds, implementation and integrations and was the boxoffice.
For the past year I've had a Ticketing Specialist 4 days a week as a direct report and that's helped to manage the load. We do a lot of non standard tessitura and work across development, marketing, producing, education and advanced training and executive, and handle all Ticketing and integrations with Wordfly etc.
Cheers
Heath
