Online ADA seat purchase verbiage

We're getting ready to open our accessible seating for online purchases.  I think we need some language  that says something like "these seats should only be purchased by patrons with mobility issues".  Does anyone have such language they'd be willing to share?  I figure no sense in recreating the wheel...

Thanks!

  • We don't have a pop-up at Segerstrom Center. There's a little blurb that pops up on the seat selection screens and the seat confirmation screens:

Please note: In accordance with ADA regulations, seating areas designated as Wheelchair or Accessible are reserved for individuals that require the accessible features of these seats. Individuals purchasing these seats that do not require such features may be relocated at management discretion. For further information on accessible seating in all our venues call 714-556-2787 and speak to one of our Customer Service Specialists.

We do call patrons to find out what accommodations we need to prepare for. At that time, if they tell us that they don't require any accommodation and bought the seats because they were open, we discuss seating with them and move them to comparable locations.

You could have an affidavit saying something like "do you, or an individual in your party have a mobility disability that requires the accessibility features of this seat?"  but I don't think anyone else is doing anything exactly like that right now.  You would probably want to double check the exact wording of the ADA regulation.

  • Hi all,

We have verbiage for both wheelchair and companion seating.  We allow those with mobility issues to use companion seating.  , As soon as they put an ADA held seat in their cart (whether through best available or SYOS), we have a pop up and it requires them to check a box before going further .  And within that popup is also a link for our full ADA disclosure regarding ticketing.  Our website is www.rutheckerdhall.com if you want to take a look but our SYOS is turned off at the moment because we’re doing a huge online promotion all week and the traffic is really heavy.  Here is the language we use:

    “VERIFICATION OF NEED” POP UP-

You have selected a space to accommodate a wheelchair.  To comply with the American Disabilities Act, we ask that you attest to your need for a space to accommodate a wheelchair or mobility device.  A chair will NOT be provided for this space.  Please see our ADA policy for additional information on exchanging tickets if your plans change.

    <CHECK BOX>  I verify need

You have selected companion seat(s) to accompany a party attending with a wheelchair or mobility device.  To comply with the American Disabilities Act, we ask that you attest that the seat will be used for this purpose.  Please see our ADA policy for additional information on exchanging tickets if your plans change.

    <CHECK BOX>  I verify need

OUR WEB SITE ADA POLICY -

    Seat Accommodations
Ruth Eckerd Hall is committed to providing accessibility to those with disabilities; therefore it is understood and assumed that locations used to accommodate a disability indicate a true need on the part of the purchaser.  Purchasing under false pretenses may result in revocation of ticketing privileges.  We reserve the right to investigate where fraud is suspected.

Locations to accommodate a wheelchair or other mobility device are made available when an event is opened for sale. Ruth Eckerd Hall does not provide a wheelchair or seat for these locations.  Companion seating is located adjacent and nearby.  Aisles and locations where steps are not present are indicated when selecting seats online.  When ordering by mail, phone or in person, please indicate your needs at the time of purchase.  Locations are sold on a first come / first served basis based on availability at the time of purchase.  In compliance with the American with Disabilities Act, locations will be released for general sale in proportion with available public inventory.  All designated locations will be released when a price section no longer has seats available for general purchase.

    Exchanging Wheelchair & Companion Locations
We understand that emergency situations may prevent the guest from attending and will make every reasonable effort to exchange the location for a comparable theater seat based on availability.  At times, such seating may not be available at which case we will issue a credit for the value of the ticket to be used toward another performance.

  • Jennifer -

There's restrictions about what you can ask, but I'm not finding them in my notes right now.. I believe something along the lines of what is below is as specific as you can get.

“Do you have a mobility disability or are you purchasing these tickets for an individual who has a mobility disability that requires the use of the accessible features that are provided in the accessible seating?”

In other words you can't ask what specifically their disability is. We have our ADA compliant purchase path up and running for the SYOS part of our site right now. Best seat is coming when we get that 10.1 release.

  • WOW!  Thanks everyone for all the feedback.  This is exactly the verbiage/ info/ideas that I was searching for.  Tessitura Forums ROCK!  :-)
