Facility Fee questions

Hello All!
We are looking towards charging a facility fee and I would like to ask a few questions for those who are using them.
1) Do you charge the same dollar amount in all sections?
2) Do you charge the facility fee in all sections?
3) Do you post the facility fee on the ticket?
4) Do you charge a facility fee for all productions, ie: even productions brought in by outside producers?
Also-any words of wisdom regarding instituting this type of fee?

I'm comfortable with the technical setup (dedicate price category, dedicated G/L, reporting issues, etc.), but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Kindly,

Mark

  • 1) We charge the same dollar amount across all sections but the fee is different per venue (we have 4 venues).

    2) We charge the fee in all sections.

    3) The facility fee is on the ticket.  We have a full price on the ticket stub and the base price and the facility fee have separate lines on the main portion of the ticket.

    4) We charge a facility fee for all performances in our facilities, including resident companies, TPAC presented shows and rental clients.

Give me a call if you have any more questions!

  • Mark,

We add facility fees to all tickets sold to performances in our 3 venues.  We actually add it as a price map to all price types during our performance set up.  If the performance is in our venue, the fee gets added.  To the patron, it’s just part of the ticket price and until they receive their ticket (we have fine print added that states ticket price includes facility fee) they don’t realize there is a fee hidden in the ticket price.  We have a flat amount that we add, so we don’t do anything different based on section or venue.

Hope this helps and good luck!!

    Teresa

    Hi Mark,

    1) Same dollar amount in all sections of our Main Stage theatre.

    2) Facility fee is charged on all seats in our Main Stage theatre, it does not apply to our smaller black box theatre.

    3) Ticket face states that "Price includes $x Capital Improvement Fund"

    4) The fee applies to all events on our Main Stage, both our own productions and outside presenters.

We have met with little resistance or complaints from patrons or presenters.

    Duane

  • HI Mark,

    Answers to your questions:

    1.       Yes, we charge the same amount

    2.       Yes, in all sections

    3.       No – we don’t post the fee on our ticket

    4.       Yes, we charge on all productions for events in our venues

We use a price map – so the fee is part of the ticket price.  I think most people expect it nowadays – and the fee is going to maintain our buildings.

    Hope that helps,

    Reena

  • We charge a facility fee…

    1.        Our fee doesn’t vary by section but by price. Because of this we had to build the fee into the price map so we could attach the appropriate fee to the appropriate price.  Low priced tickets are charged a lower facility fee than the standard fee.

    2.       The facility fee is charged in all sections.

    3.       We print the total price and then “Includes facility and service charge fees” on our tickets.

    4.       We charge the facility fee on all shows – our presentations, resident companies and rentals.

We also have had very few problems with our patrons since the fee is part of the price and not added on top but there are a couple of things to think– if you would normally waive this kind of fee (for donors or other customer service issues) you will not be able to if it is built into the price.  Also it helps to make sure your ads mention the fee – either “includes fee” or “subject to a fee” but either way we have run into problems when we don’t mention that there is a fee.

  • Hey Mark!

We also charge a facility fee.

It is applicable to all events taking place in our venue and is a flat per ticket fee regardless of ticket price or section.

Similar to other venues (as I can see by the replies!) we have a unique price map for the fee and the amount is included in the published ticket price.

If you choose to include it in the published ticket price I would be sure to mention it to any outside presenters that are renting your facility. Especially since this will be a new thing for your venue. They may choose to advertise with the fee inclusive price to help minimize any patron confusion.

Hope it works well for you!

  • Howdy Gang!!
Many thanks to all for your prompt and thorough replies.  The information you supplied was very helpful and I really appreciate it.  Not sure of our timeline, but it is wonderful to be able to bring this information into the discussion.

On a side note, it is terrific to hear from you!  Hoping to see a bunch of you in Florida next month.

    Warmly,

    Mark Sackett
