Hi everyone,
I am trying to figure out if there is a way to delete old packages. When I try to delete say November packages, I get an error saying cannot delete because there are dependent rows. I assume it is because we sold the seats in the package during that month, correct? However, it gets very tedious scrolling through past packages to get to the ones I need. I just want to clean it up. Any ideas, or is it a pipe dream?

Jon,
Yes, once you've sold tickets into a package they cannot be deleted. However, if what's going on is what I think, there is an easy fix!
If you go into Ticketing Set Up and into Packages within that, you can select the packages you want to no longer show up, look at the Modes of Sale attached, and simply set the end date to some day in the past. Once they are expired in this way, they no longer show up in the tickets screen. In the future, if you do have monthly packages, you can set those end dates for the end of said month, and this will happen automatically.
Hope that helps,
Matt
Thank you Matt! I'm going to give it try now.
Best regards,
Well, I tried setting the dates to a past date and that did not work. I also deleted the modes of sale and the packages still show up on the list on the left. Any ideas?
Hey Christopher,
I am in ticketing setup>packages>Select the proper packages and they all show up on the left like normal but I am unable to get rid of the old ones using the previous suggestion of changing the dates in the modes of sale. Even when I delete the modes of sale, they show up.
I wonder if it is a function of how we use Tessitura as museum instead of performing arts? We use combo packages to sell the general exhibits and an Omni film if customers want that. It is all general 'seating' so I don't know if that makes a difference.
Hi Jon,
The behaviour you are seeing is correct. I think there was some confusion earlier because the assumption was that you were seeing the packages in the ticket order dropdown and not in the package setup area. The Start/End dates won't affect when packages show up there.
While there's no way to remove the packages entirely from that screen, I'm 99% sure it's acceptable for you to rename the packages without breaking anything. So as a package becomes obsolete you could prefix the name with a ZZ or something similar; pushing them to the bottom of the list. The one caution I would have offhand about that is that it may take some extra brain power when running reports, building lists or even looking at the constituent package history screen if you were to do something like this. Your staff would have to remember that old packages have the ZZ prefix and upcoming ones do not.
It's not the most elegant solution but it might help. Perhaps there other museums with similar setups have found a better way to do it and they will chime in!
What screen/module are you seeing the packages displayed on?
Thanks!

I think that may be the issue at hand. Tessitura groups packages by Season and if you aren’t building individual seasons for each Fiscal Year/Season, there currently doesn’t seem to be a way to hide these packages. Perhaps an enhancement request for an “Inactive” checkbox on the individual packages with a “Show Inactive” checkbox for the Packages module is in order?

Thanks Beth. Yes, this works to move them down, but is time consuming. I wonder if this is something Tessitura is able to change in the future?
Thanks to everyone for your help!
