Gift Certificate Functionality

Hello,

We are getting ready to sell gift certificates in Tessitura and would like to print them on regular paper stock rather than on ticket stock. We also will have them available to purchase on our website. Does anyone have a procedure for doing this that they like and could share? Where do you record recipient information, message, etc. on Tessitura? How do you get that information, plus gift certificate number, to print on the gift certificate?

Thanks!

Judy

  • I believe that there is a standard report that does exactly this. I have never used it, but you'll find it in the Ticketing Processing Folder and is called "Gift Certificate Batch Printing". Hopefully this will set you in the correct direction.

  • Hi Judy,

We use the Gift Certificate Batch printing report with a special format with the amount and gift certificate number that can then be printed onto gift certificate paper stock. We also created a custom report for printing individual gift certificate orders so that our box office staff doesn’t have to worry about using all of the parameters in the batch printing report. The only parameters they enter are the constituent ID, whether it is a reprint yes or no, and then they select the Gift Certificate number from a drop down menu which pulls just from the constituent ID that they entered.

For online sales, a pdf is generated with a template background that looks just like our gift certificate paper stock and that is automatically attached to the email confirmation that they receive so the patron can either print it out themselves or just forward it on to whomever they are giving it to. Also for online sales, an auto-closing CSI is created that records the gift dollar amount, the gift certificate number and the ‘to’ and ‘from’ and any message that the patron has typed in. This has worked wonderfully for us, especially around the holidays when everyone wants a last minute present.

  • Judy -

We've also used a couple of our custom order data fields to record To/From and Note information so we can personalize the Gift Certificates.

We've found this works really well as people like that personal touch. We have also coded our website to use those order fields and customize their gift certificate.

We also tweaked the standard GC print report from Tessi in order to include those order data fields.

Thanks Heather. We too are using the custom data fields to record personal messages and have linked that in with online sales as well. But is there a way to customize messages to more than one recipient if someone is purchasing multiple gift certificates, or do they have to be set up on separate orders?

    Thanks again!

  • Judy –

We do set them up in different orders to be able to customize them properly.

  • Heather,

I just started working as a developer at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in CA.  I'm currently looking over the website code and learning the Tessatura application.   I'm supposed to add the gift certificate functionality to our online shopping cart process using the Tessatura API.  I'm trying to find some examples of C# or VB.net code I could use as an example.  Would you know if there's anything like that on this website?  I'll keep digging around and see what I find.   Thanks.  Nicholas

  • Hi Nicolas -

Welcome aboard! I assume you've looked in the Learning & Resources area of the Tessitura site for Web API documentation.

Other than that, I'm not personally aware of anything - but I'm not our web developer either.
