Tessitura.ini and Windows 7

We are having an issue with new PCs Windows 7 dealing with ticket printing. We keep getting ... Can't set printer to default.

The users have full control to the Tessitura.ini file through a local users security group and we have tried giving the user explicit permissions. We have tried putting the file in system32 and in the root of C but have a feeling that Windows 7 doesn't allow writing to files in these locations. Anybody else had this issue or know a work around?

Thanks,

  • Not sure if this is exactly the same as Windows 7 but we put the Tessitura.ini file in local user profiles.  They should be able to then edit the ini file from this location.  You will need to create a logon script to copy the files to this location but the users should be able to edit it from this location.

In the target of the tessitura shortcut you will need to put something like this T:\Startup\Tessitura_Start.bat " C:\users\%username%\tessitura.ini

Not sure if will work 100% but could be a solution.

  • I seem to recall that we had problems with this until we gave local users full control to c:\tessitura itself (+ applied to files within), rather than to specific files within it.

  • Looks like we got it working with c:\tessitura itself (+ applied to files within). I think our issue was that when we were changing the permissions that we were clicking the ok button instead of Apply which then pops up an additional dialog box.

    Thanks for the help!

  • Just an FYI.  You can automate these permission settings in group policy so you don't have to deal with doing it on every workstation.  I have a howto I can send you if you want.

Rich, could I get a copy of the howto?

  • Marty, we have been having issues, too.  One thing we found is that with Windows7, we’ve had to have a default printer set in the Tessitura.ini file.

Rich, would you please send us a copy of your ‘How to’, too?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Rich,

My name is Monic, I'm working at the Melbourne Arts Centre.

I stumbled upon your response while gathering some information about Tessitura deployment on windows 7 64 bit. What sort of measures did you take before rolling out. Where there major road blocks did you face? Also, would you be able to share your how to instruction on setting permissions thru group policy?

    Many Thanks,

We were not able to use 64-bit for our ticket office computers because information in some of the drop down windows in Tessitura did not display properly.  I ended up loading Windows 7 32-bit on those computers.

  • Penny, We are using 64bit exclusively in our ticket office and have not had any issues with dropdowns once we made the registry change for the windowless select control in IE.  Have you tried that change?.  Can you share what issues you had?

Monic.  I created one test machine and set up a single ticket office user with it to find out where we might run into issues.  The only problems we found were windowless select control (which also exists in 32 bit versions and windows XP, but requires a different registry key be changed for 64 bit) and a little messing around with display resolutions to make the seat map appear correctly.  The other thing you may have to look at is your directory structure.  We install tess under the program files directory.  When we made the switch we decided to keep with program files instead of moving it to the program files x86 directory.  By leaving it in the same location all of our existing group policies from XP will still work.
I will send you the GP howto off list.  Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions.

    -Rich

  • Penny, Take a look at TASK solution 19336.  I think that will fix your 64 bit dropdown issue.  As a sidenote... This change can be distributed using group policy also.
