Tess Fish Policy

We are interested in learning what the policies are for other Organizations regarding Tessitura Fish.  Since allowing employees to take Fish home with them is not an option (or not a great option) what are your policies for Tessitura Fish?  Some ideas we have already read about are:

- Employees are responsible for keeping their Tess Fish at their work desk and once a month IT checks to ensure they have their Tess Fish and it's in a location that's easy for the employee to find

- Employees are responsible for picking up and dropping of their Tess Fish in a designated location (Reception/IT Desk, etc.) each day

Are there other ideas/suggestions?

  • Hey Jolene.

We toyed with those same ideas, but opted for a written policy.

The policy is written such that the employee is responsible for the token at all times.  Should they lose or damage the token, they are responsible for the replacement cost.

In addition, if the employee does take their token home and forgets it, the manager has the right to send them back home (unpaid) to retrieve the token.

    Hope that helps.

  • We have the same as Dot’s organization.  We have a lot of mobile workers and didn’t want to discourage that flexibility.  So instead, each user signs a policy when they receive their token that indicates they are responsible for keeping it secure, letting us know if it’s lost (for which they pay a replacement cost), and if it’s left at home they need to go home and get it.

  • I agree with Dot and Nancy. When I was at the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony we had a written policy that employees were responsible for their fish and if it was damaged or lost they are responsible for the cost of a new fish. We included this in the same document that new employees sign when they're assigned their keys and/or access pass for the building, and it includes their token number. This way we have a record of token numbers kept on file in a reliable HR location (i.e. not a random piece of paper in my desk somewhere).

  • Our employees are responsible for their fish and are told when they start what it will cost them if they lose their fish. Box Office personnel leave their fish in the box office and are requested to never take it home. Other employees who may need to connect from home are reminded to remember their fish every day. If an employee leaves a fish at home, they can be issued a new fish and then return the old one to me the next day. If they do not return the old fish, then they are responsible for its cost. I think we’ve only had a couple of lost fish in the three years we’ve been on RAMP.

Fish can be fragile, and we do not charge employees if their fish are damaged during routine use (I doubt we’ve got any fish in use that don’t have tape holding them together).

Having now been on RAMP for three years, we’re experiencing a spate of dead fish batteries, something we hadn’t even considered.
