Adding a 'comp' ticket to a normal ticket.

Hi all.

We are trying to do a promotion for Mothers day where if you purchase 1 ticket, you can get another one free (for your mother).

I'm not quite sure how we would achieve this.

Has anybody done this before?

We are looking at doing it on the web and through the application.

Thanks.

  • We usually do these offers as a 2for1, the extra comp became problematic when we trialled it from a Finance point of view.

  • Hi Brenda,

Does this mean your website forces people to buy a minimum of 2  tickets for that price type?

  • Hi Courtney,

Our online sales aren’t that sophisticated these offers have been counter and phone. We will investigate the online option further down the track though. I believe that there was talk this could be managed through Tessitura at a later stage, don’t think you can yet

  • Thanks Brenda.

I think we need to try and do it on the web, but I'm not sure how we would do that.

Our website is ok, but the 'zero' price ticket would be the issue.

I thought of the 2 for 1 offer, but that still needs them to actually select 2 tickets.

    Hi Anna

We set up a relatively simple GetLocalData- based method for restricting tickets to multiples of numbers (or max and min options)

It’s based on Price Type: to do 2-for-1 we limit the dropdowns for that PriceType to only show 2,4,6,8, or 10 tix as options.

We set those options in a local table,

    Like this:

and then use GetLocalData to pick them up; then web code is used to limit the drop-down values when that Price type is displayed..

Clunky, but fairly simple to implement and manage.

  • We're trying to do something similar for a promotion here at The Granada Theatre.

Buy a ticket with XXX offer code and receive a free merchandise item.  Unfortunately there seems to be no clear-cut, easy way for Tessitura to automatically add the extra line item so we're going to have to monitor it manually.

Our solution was to create a new MOS for the Web (i.e. Web-Merchandise) and build the offers against that MOS.  We will then be able to monitor all orders received in that MOS and manually add the Merchandise Voucher (which had to be built as it's own performance) to the constituent's order.

This seemed the best way for us to manage this limited time offer.

  • Thanks everyone.

It seems like everyone has a good option for the above.

I like the sound of the web procedure, Ken, but we would never get it done in time for our live website.

I think the package build we have put in place and developed might be able to do this, but wondered if there was an easier, 'out of the box' option.

Also seems like everyone is in the same boat as to Tessitura not being able to do this neatly.

Thanks again everyone.  Great 'teamwork'.    :-)
