Credit Card/Merchant Fees - added as a fee charged to the customer

Hi all.

We are trying to oncharge credit card fees (a standard set %) to the customer, but only for selected performances.

We are using the Fee utility and charging it at the performance seat level.  Calculated with the fee type being rule based.

the issue we have is that when somebody is redeeming a gift voucher, there is no way to tell it only to calcuate the fee on the event and not the gift voucher amount.

Eg  $100 ticket is being redeemed with a set percentage credit card fee that the constituent pays.  This is done with a $50 gift voucher and $50 via credit card.  We only want the $50 on credit card to be calcuated with the fee.  At the moment, the constituent is charged a percentage of the total ticket amount, not the credit card amount.

Does anyone else do this? How do you handle partial payments/gift vouchers when calculating a set fee?

    Hello Anna,

    Using the standard fee utility, you could change the "User Can Edit Amount" dropdown to "Yes".  If your box office staff knows the credit card fee % they could re-calculate the fee to apply only to the charged amount in this type of transaction.

    Payment method isn't an option here, so not sure how else you could do this without some kind of customization.  Also if gift vouchers are redeemable online, customization wouold be required here too.

    Thanks for the response.

    It's exactly what we are doing, i.e. manually calcualting at the box office and contact centre. It was more of an online/web issue.

    You are correct, it does require some customization and we'll investigate the cost involved with that and whether it's worth it.

    One thing to think about here is that some credit card companies have specific rules about charging patrons to use their card.  I am thinking of American Express specifically, but it would not surprise me if others have similar clauses in their contracts.  I would double check with your finance department if  this is even legal to do...

    Luckily for us here in OZ, those contractual conditions about not charging a surcharge for credit card use were ruled invalid.
    The High Court, (if I remember correctly) decided that they were anti-competitive, and violated fair trade laws, and voided them. The credit card companies squealed like stuck pigs, but they don't seem to be actually going broke yet.
    We're very interested to see how Anna gets on with trying to do it in a Tess environment. I suspect it's not possible without a Tess enhancement, or at least some fairly clever web code for the online part.
