Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for suggestions on how best to enter gift memberships (buyer and recipient are different) through the ticket order module... Our box office just started taking memberships at the window but I'm not sure what might be the most efficient way to handle gifts.
Where do you record the gift recipient's info in the ticket order screen? And how do you make sure that the development dept is aware that these memberships are gifts?
Thanks in advance!
Best,
Doug
We've always found gift memberships to be problematic as well. For many reasons (the purchaser didn't know the recipient's address or phone number, the purchaser didn't want notification to go out until a certain date, etc...) we switched to selling a gift card for the amount of a membership. That way the recipient can redeem the gift card and activate the membership whenever they choose, allowing them to get full usage out of the membership (our memberships are good for one year from date of purchase). It's worked quite well. If you have any more specific questions let me know and I can try to answer or I can direct you to our membership manager.
If fund setup in the campaigns module has the box checked that allows a fund to be used in ticketing, you can enter contributions in ticketing on the contributions tab of the Ticketing Order module. You select the fund and put in the gift amount, and paying for the order pays for the contribution as well.
With gifts entered via a ticket order, you have no control of
· membership setup, including whether the gift goes to the correct membership during the membership renewal period
· which acknowledgement gets pulled
· any other customizations
For these reasons, many Tessiturians choose to put contributions into some form of on-account payment method so that they can then be processed via the Contributions module. That’s what we do. We have scheduled a modified version of the On Account Tracking Report (extra columns for source number and sales channel) to run nightly so that Development knows what to look for. We create specific on account payment methods for every event or other division that would affect which funds Development would enter gifts to.
