CC magnetic reader issue

Hello everyone! We were given new magnetic stripe readers to process credit cards and have not been able to get them to function. Does anyone have advice on how to configure or where I could look for that type of information on the Network? Not sure if I can list what make/ model they are on this board. We tried downloading from the website with no luck.

Thanks,

  • Hey Laura,

We have HP magnetic swipe readers here and I've got the config file with all our settings. It won't allow me to post the file on my profile, so I'll email it directly to you.

Hopefully that will help get you started.

  • Everyone,

This isn't directly related to Laura's issue I don't think, but we just discovered something today that I wanted to pass along to the community.  It looks like Unitech readers do not work with Tessitura credit card transactions.  We installed 2 of them and they won't read AmEx or Mastercard.  When we replaced them with a different brand (the original we bought when we opened), they work just fine.  Just wanted to share in case anyone is looking at Unitech.

  • Teresa,

Thank you. This is actually directly related as we bought the same readers. Though, they wouldn't read any cards we tried.

    Laura

  • Hi Beau,

Justin form Perth Festival here, I read your post with interest, we would like to implement the card readers with Tessitura Ramp at a couple of temporary venues.

I wonder if you mind telling me the card reader model number and perhaps where you purchased them and any other related information.

Is the configuration file you mentioned just for the PC?

    Many thanks in advance

    Regards

    Justin

  • Hey Justin,

We purchased "HP USB Mini MSR (Magnetic Stripe Reader) with Brackets" through our IT provider. They were very simple to install and come with software to configure them. I can't post the config file we used on my profile here, but can email it to you?

There's probably a little extra config required to make them work with RAMP too, so best see if anyone else has installed them in a RAMP environment, or talk to the Network team.

    Beau.

  • Hi Beau,

I just emailed you though your profile - I'm hoping you can send any info related to setting up the HP Mini USB card readers?

    Thanks Justin

  • Hey Justin,

Just confirming that my friends at Melbourne Recital Centre have emailed through their config files for you. These files work in the application that HP provides with the readers (or can be downloaded online).

The important thing here is to make sure the actual detail of what the reader places where in the payment screen is correct. It may take a bit of playing and testing to make it work for you. As an example, we had to change this in V11 to tab through the new postcode field. I also put an enter command at the end in one of the files so that it would tab accross and authorise instantly, although that's something that I can't remember if MRC ever used.

    Enjoy!

    Beau.
