AV on Seat and Credit Card Servers

Has anyone out there had any issues with running anti-virus on their seat and credit card servers?

  • We had an issue maybe 6 months ago where a Symantec update wasn't playing nicely with the credit card server.  It would throw an error and when you clicked through the error it shut down the server.  If this sounds familiar and you want more details let me know!

We have switched to VIPRE and it will occasionally hang up our servers when it updates its data.  I believe, though, that the techs can specify certain processes/services to “ignore” (such as the SQL services) so we don’t have as much trouble as we initially did, but it still hangs a server once in a while.

  • We use CA eTrust and I have all of the Transcend Process and directories on the so not scan list.  We haven't had any issues with the AV interfering with processes on the server.  That being said I am not particularly fond of eTrust and would not recommend it.

We had some issues with AVG and our virtualized credit card server where it would blow out the virtual machine with too many sockets being open and some massive process spikes. No issue on a workstation with it however.
