Null Printer on RAMP with Macintosh Client Workstation.

Has anyone worked out how to set up a NULL Ticket Printer when the client computer running Citrix is not a Windows PC but is a Macintosh Computer?

We have not found a configuration where a Macintosh user can print to a "Null Printer".  This would be particularly helpful for Testing.

  • Hi Tom,

We haven't been able to figure this out either. As far as I know, they aren't compatible. Alternative possibilities that we have played with are:

    1. Installing windows emulation software on the workstation and installing the null printer through that.

    2. Batch printing tickets to file instead of to a null printer individually. This way, tickets as marked as printed and the user can proceed with an exchange/testing/etc.

Curious to see if anyone has a workaround.

  • I'm using VMWare Fusion on my Mac.  And can work this out in this way.  However, that is an extra expense and adds complication to my workstation.

What in particular are you referencing when you say "Batch printing tickets to file instead of to a null printer individually"?

  • Some of our Mac users will batch print tickets to file when testing or when marking a bunch of package/voucher tickets as printed (for exchanges).

It's in season manager>>batch ticket printing. When you select preview for your batch, there is an option to select which printer you want to print to OR you can print to file and output a CSV of all the ticket data (usually used for merging into a separate file/ticket layout). They don't actually use the output, but it's a simple way for Mac users to mark tickets as printed without having to actually set a printer.

Obviously, this isn't useful in every situation (i.e. needing to mark an individual ticket or order as printed while actively processing an exchange), but it can be a useful tool depending on the situation. Let me know if that helps!

  • Thanks for checking on this Mark - we're experiencing this issue as well. It would be great if the Network would come up with a solution for this. Mac users do exist!

  • Hi Fred! Thanks for flagging this. Tessitura as a Windows application is programmed to use the Windows generic/text only print driver. We know that developing the application for Windows does mean Mac users running Tessitura don't have certain features such as ticket printing. The workaround to use batch ticket printing to print to a file is something we have recommended in the past as well.

Given the current situation we are all in, if you are encountering this because of needing to mark large numbers of tickets as printed so that you can refund then, please know that an upcoming enhancement to the brand new Event Cancellation Utility will be to mark tickets as printed prior to returning them.

  • Just wondering if these are the sort of quirks that we can expect to slowly disappear as Tessitura shifts from its InfoMaker/PowerBuilder roots to more of a web based application or if there is still an intent to focus Tessitura towards the Windows operating system.

    Thanks!

  • Hi John! We do see a future where Tessitura is more browser based and compatible with more systems, and we move closer to that every day, but we don't know many details for things that are very system-dependent, like ticket printing, yet.

  • Hi Mark - thanks for this tip about batch ticket printing. I'm sure this will be handy at some point but just to chime in to the chorus, we have a few people in our team here that would really benefit from a solution to regular printing to a null printer, so will keep my ears to the ground and let you know if anything comes to mind... Thanks all.
