Does SYOS increase sales?

Hi all,

I'm looking for any data anyone is willing to share that suggests SYOS increases sales. Is anybody willing to share any rough numbers?

  • I too would be interested in this information.  We are undergoing a complete overhaul of our website - to coincide with out implementation of Tessitura.  Do the figures make SYOS a "must have" rather than a "nice to have" feature?

  • Me too, as we are in the process of implementing TNEW with SYOS functionality.

I’m more interested to know if anyone has seen a huge change in sales patterns (% increase in web sales vs other methods).

We are also looking at the most effective way to market SYOS once it is available.  If anyone has any tips there that would also be appreciated!

    Beau.

  • Or even if anyone is not comfortable sharing specific %s, I'd be happy with just "yes, it seems like it did" or "no, not really".

  • Hi Amanda -

There was a presentation a few years ago by POP (I think it was a webinar based on sales jumps their clients experienced when implementing SYOS) that indicated people who implemented SYOS usually saw a 10-15% jump in online sales. We used those projections when presenting to our board a couple of years ago about why we needed to update our website. I'm not sure how they would compare today, but it is a starting point.

We implemented a year ago and saw about a 5-8% increase, but our online sales are pretty high to begin with (60-75% of single ticket sales) so I wasn't fully anticipating a jump to 90% of our tickets being sold online with SYOS implementation.

We launched SYOS at the same time as a site redesign so I can’t isolate that our increase in online sales was due only to the SYOS.  However I suspect it has a lot to do with it since SYOS was the most requested feature by our customers.

I also can’t say that it increased overall sales because our sales are down across the board.  However while we are trending 10,000 fewer tickets sold so far this year, we have sold 10,000 more tickets online.

My guess is that we have a lower abandonment rate online now with the SYOS (we really didn’t have good analytics until the relaunch so I can’t give actual stats).  However, we used to get a lot of calls with the customer already on our website in the middle of a best available order, asking what other seats were available.   Who knows how many sales were lost because someone not comfortable with best available didn’t bother to call or wait on the phone queue?  There’s definitely been a conversion of phone purchasers to online purchasers.

We also charge a higher handling fee online than by phone so that resulted in a nice revenue increase.

It was definitely worth investing in the SYOS, if only to alleviate the queue time for on-sales and meet customer expectations.  Everyone expects an Amazon experience these days.

  • We have had SYOS for quite a while, but I seem to remember a jump in sales when we first got it.  More recently we redesigned our website and simplified the purchase path.  What used to take many clicks through many pages is now managed in three steps that live on two pages.  Since we have started using the new purchase path we are consistantly seeing an average of twice as many web sales.  So SYOS is important (and we still use it), but our lesson learned is that simplified user experience for the whole purchase is very important as well.

  • Having talked to a number of license holders about this over the years since it was launched in 2003, I have most consistently heard them quote a bump of 8% to 12% and sometimes more.  In other words if 30% online before SYOS, then 38% to 42% or so after implementation.
