Mobile Giving, Text2Give, Etc

We are looking for a way to take instant donations at small donor events. We do have TNEW but are looking more for a "one click" type option. Not looking at Venmo, Paypal, etc,  we're wondering what everyone else uses. Donate2 looks nice, but I'd love to get ideas from this team, before I spend hours down a bunch of rabbit holes. If it works well, we'll use it at larger events down the road, like the Gala and actual shows so something like a $5k max per week will not work long term for us.

TIA!

Yvonne

  • When I was with CMA I set up their Give Lively platform. Free, text-to-donate (donor sends promo to number and receives a link to tap), uses Stripe for payment processing. Very user friendly to create new campaigns, promos, etc.

  • We too have a text to give platform, but it makes users create an account with them, so in the end it wasn't as user friendly. I push our one page giving site as much as possible. I created a QR code for signage and such so it is easy to share with patrons. I like it since they don't have to create an account and it goes directly into Tessitura for ack letters and reconciliation. I was having to export the data out of our t2g and enter it into Tess. Good luck finding one that works best for you!

  • We are planning a one-page giving scenario with a QR Code as you mentioned. Quick question - how did you create your QR Code? Do you have a good website or place where you create the QR code? I'm cautious and don't know the in's & out's of QR Code production. I've seen and tested some of the sites on the internet, but this is a new realm for me and I'm not sure if there are dangers or "scam" factors on random QR Code generator sites. If you have a trusted site and could share that would be awesome. And - if anyone has any cautionary advice, I'd love to hear it!! (you can't be too safe these days Slight smile)

  • I used a code generator online and seem to have good success with it. If you use a Google Chrome browser you can also create one right there. Just click in the site bar and on the right you will see a QR code image. You can just click on that and it will generate one for you. Keep in mind that theirs does have a little dinosaur in it so if that isn't something you want, I would recommend a code site. Just make sure you use one that will not limit your scans or expire your code.

  • I don't have a particular service to recommend, but I'm interested in the topic of using QR codes to direct people to One Page Giving on TNEW. Have you considered/experimented with embedding a source code in the URL for the QR code so you can track how many donations you get from it? Or other ways to measure its usage?

  • Thank you!

Michael - I actually haven't thought that far yet. We'll be having an off-site mural/wall-covering promotion in a high-traffic area promoting non-profits this summer, so our plan is to use the QR Code to One-Page Giving idea. I don't believe there will be another avenue to get to the One-Page site, so we will know that they all came from the QR Code...but definitely something to think more about. Thanks for the input.

  • I love that idea! I have looked at it a little bit, but we don't really get much traffic on it so I haven't put it into practice yet, but love that idea especially for specific events.

  • We use Donate2 forms for a lot of our one-click giving and have found it to be such a seamless tool between the patron making a gift and the gift being booked into Tessitura. Donate2 has a function where any of your forms can generated into a QR code which is quite nice. The Donate2 help team is also fantastic if you ever need to troubleshoot a form.

At Imagination Stage, we use GiveLively. Like said, it's free and has a text-to-donate option. We set up GiveLively for our online gala and it did the trick really well in providing options for two-click donations: users go to a page containing your messaging and an optional picture, select their donation amount, and then enter payment info on the next screen. It sends them an automatic email you set up in advance and they take care of the tax-acknowledgement. It also takes payment via google and apply pay, which pairs really well with texting-to-give.

We found that almost a third, if I remember correctly, chose to give via apple/google pay,and about half used the text-to-donate feature during the event. Overall, super easy to set up and easy to continuously use. Check out a page we have up right now to see what the user experience is like: secure.givelively.org/.../secret-agent-scavenger-hunt

  • If you want something cheap and simple, try out Square's "online checkout" links. You can create simple, mobile-friendly one-page checkouts via link or QR code, like this:

Square has no monthly subscription fee -- you just pay their processing rate.
