So here's one I'm trying to figure out: A patron pledged some money a few weeks ago. They paid it online; we put our online donations into on accounts for Devo to process. This patron started a duplicate account and paid his pledge under that. So I've got an on account pledge payment sitting under a duplicate account. What's the best way to get a handle on this one?
So, the on account is on the record without the membership. Would I just process it and then refund it then?
Hmm. I'll play around with that in Test and see what happens.
If the membership history is in the record with the On Account – process the on-account membership. Refund the money from the dupe account, make certain the membership record is deleted and then merge the two records.

Can you merge the two accounts and have the pledge payment put into an on account hold and then pay the pledge that way?

Merge the 2 individual accounts. If a HH is present and donations are on the HH level, then after merging, move the money to the HH.

You could merge the accounts before processing the payment.
Or, if you can’t do that for any reason, or can’t do it right away, you could change the individual account with the pledge to a household account (in the header to go “constituents” drop down, select “household operations” and “convert to a household”), add the account with the payment as an affiliate (but not A2), then use the “move transactions to household” function to get the payment from the individual account to the household. Once that is done, removed the duplicate account from the household and change the household account back to an individual account. Not the fastest but if you can’t merge for any reason, it will get the money where you need it.

If there is no past membership history to worry about then it really doesn’t matter which gift you refund – though I tend to like to keep the older record so I would process and in the older record and refund dupe – then merge.
