I'm wondering if other venues do the same as us - we offer free admission to the museum for under 5's, with a paying adult. At the moment we don't really have a way to control this online - theoretically, someone could add 5 "under 5" tickets to their basket and pay nothing. We would spot this on scan/entry, so it's not a huge issue, but I'm curious if anyone has a better solution. Pricing rules become tricky as we use our adult ticket price types in another pricing rule.
Any suggestions or thoughts welcomed!
Hi Katie
We do the same at Tate with our free admission tickets and since 2021 have even added some more.
We were very cautious before adding free tickets online - the first ticket type we did this with was the Disabled Companion. We monitored it quite closely and the amount of tickets booked that were only Disabled Companion, without any other tickets in the booking were negligible. The checks for us are also when tickets are scanned at the exhibition entrance and although I'm sure some people are gaining entry with incorrect tickets, the numbers will be small. We don't currently have another way of having these tickets available (so also interested in how others approach it!) but on balance for us making sure that these ticket types are easily bookable online is more important than the odd person getting a free ticket when they shouldn't.Thanks,Stephen
Good to know other people are facing the same issue. Completely agree with you Stephen - I'd rather offer this online and run the risk of a few people taking advantage (which can easily be spotted) than not offer at all. But have added my vote to Naomi's suggestion, as that would be perfect!
