Hello friends,
I've been asked to make a heat code map for ticket buyer zip codes. But I don't have ANY idea how to start with that.
Anyone able to throw out some helpful hints?
Thanks so much,
Lesley Chaney
There is an area map option in analytics. Unfortunately, the most detailed it gets out of the box is state or country.
Hi Leslie,
I use a Scatter Map
You'll want to make sure that your filter is pulling from whichever table your survey answers are going to. Hope that helps.
Hi Lesley - the scatter map option works quite well. When looking at a season or production, add a scatter map and use for location, primary address postcode short. For color, use # unique constituents. It should look like this for the criteria below. In the color of the map, you have a variety of options to change things up.
Ultimately can look like this:
HA - thanks Anne! I knew more than I thought I did...
I've used scatter map for board reports and there are quite a few forum posts on it from a few years ago on getting it "right". Filter order is key (or was). I usually do a city scale one and then something at a country level.
There are a few design settings to fiddle with but the thing that took a while for me was the levels. As you’ll see there will be lots of post codes with a few tickets and few with a huge amount. You don't want the former to down or the latter. I would look at setting colours in conditional ranges (exponential?) to get the data vis right.
If it's a one off report then you could export a pivot table of data and use excel map chart.
Hi Lesley,
Please also see this help page's Data Settings for recommendations.
And this post can be helpful if you need to go beyond the Scatter Map point mapping features.
