We are looking to do a specific promo using allocations and a mode of sale switch online. We have had no problems doing this when orders are seated, but for this promo we want to use unseated orders and then seat them closer to the performance date. I had thought/hoped that in TNEW I could change the option to seat or not based on mode of sale (there is a mode of sale drop down in product editor) and it does, indeed, work exactly as I want. However, it also uses the same unseated option for our regular web mode of sale, which is not what we want at all. Is this possible, or am I missing a step? Basically, what we want is to have the option at a performance level to only allow seated orders in our web mode of sale and to allow unseated orders in our web promo mode of sale.

It's a heartbreaker, but the MOS drop down in the TNEW Admin basically does nothing except potentially screen out performances that don't have the MOS in question attached to them. I think there was one other random thing, Price Type exclusions or something. Being able to change values based on MOS (imagine being able to show different instructions!) would be amazing, but no. The MOS dropdown is going away completely in v16.
I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a way to do this. I think the only way to having seated/unseated out of sync is that you can have different settings for package sales vs single tickets.
This makes me sad....but thank you for confirming that I'm not losing my mind. Now to get back the 4 hours I spent on this earlier..
I do not want to confirm this because I have never tried it, but if you uncheck the "Seating" button on the specific performance's MOS set-up in Tessitura, that might do the trick. At least, it is worth testing out.
Assuming John's idea works, if they are not seated in a MOS, then you could potentially end up with more potential tickets being sold than what you can actually seat in the performance. I just wanted to throw that out there in case capacity is an issue.

This would be my concern as well. I see the intention, but when we do things like this we just settle for using Allocations.
I tried this - actually, that was the first thing I did. The unseated piece works exactly as we want it to, but it isn't confined to the promo mode of sale - the entire performance comes up as unseated online. That's the problem. I'm thinking the only way around it is to set up a dummy auxilary event and use a form for patrons to list the show date they want. Definitely not as smooth and easy, but it would likely work for our purpose.

The documentation on that here (https://www.tessituranetwork.com/Help_System/Tessitura.htm#Mode%20of%20Sale/Add%20MOS%20to%20Perf.htm) makes it seem like it should be limited to that MOS, which, as long as you are using an MOS flip, should do it. If it does not, I would be curious why the documentation makes it seem like it does.
Yes. That's why I spent four hours trying to get it to work. It definitely works in terms of allowing the order to be processed without seating - the issue is, as soon as you activate the "Allow Orders To Be Unseated" in TNEW, it goes with that setting for all orders and not just the mode of sale I want. The only thing I didn't try (and maybe this is what you/documentation are referring to) is to have that mode of sale set up to NOT seat but leave the product editor in TNEW set to seat. I didn't try that as it didn't make sense to me, but maybe that's the way to go...
I would have guessed that the TNEW Admin settings would override this, but the name itself suggest that it only overrides it if seated: Sell Seated Event as Unseated.

Okay, then why have the local settings if not to set them differently to the MOS defaults?
I'm going to give this a shot in our Test environment.
Ordinarily, we use allocations too. However, we stole an idea from Coldplay where customers pay a set price for a "seat" but that seat could be anywhere in the house and they don't find out until right before the show. We plan on using this to dress the house and fill in any holes we have as we get closer (this would not be on a show that we think would sell out) so capacity isn't really an issue.
Yeah... that documentation callout makes no sense to me either. The whole point of having granular settings is to have granular settings. Sure, you want the MOSes to have default settings, that is all well and good, but we WANT to control them on an individual performance/MOS level.
And yeah Tracey, I think it is worth trying NOT flipping the TNEW setting but flipping the MOS seating setting. I am not in a position to test it myself, but hey, it cannot hurt.
Okay, I can confirm that this works! As John says, in TNEW you have everything set to sell as seated, but in Ticketing Setup you set the MOS in question on the performance in question to have the Seated checkbox unchecked.

I just spent all of 10 minutes doing this and YES it does work! I never even thought to try only the unseated check box in Tessitura - I thought for sure I would need to change the TNEW setting.
