You mean /single/eventlisting.aspx? Is the message set to fire for that message type? And what is the timing, if you add an item to the cart and then enter the source is that different to entering the source and then adding a qualifying item?

That, I'm afraid, there is no built in capability for in TNEW. Pricing Rules only fire when there is something in the customer's cart.
Perhaps what you're trying to accomplish can be done with the DisplayPromoText site control? This allows you to enter text in any one of the six custom text fields in TR_WEB_SOURCE_NO and have that display to the user immediately after entering a promo code. See:
