Patron log in on your website in the purchase path

I see on sites that some people have the patron log in before looking for seats and some after seats are in thier cart and they're ready to check out. I understand the reasoning behind both, but I'm wondering if anyone has a combo plater - either or - kinda like when you're looking for a flight on aa.com you can choose to log in before you get your flight options or after.  So is anyone offering this type of log in?

  • We do this, you can see it here and a lot of other folks do this as well.  The key is using an anonymous log in to give the patron to have a valid session.

  • Great! Yes we use the anonymous log in now, but I guess I’m looking to more for examples of the combo log in.

    Thanks so much.

So for those others that are out there who have a multiple log in  - please let me know – I would like to look at your site.

  • We maintain a login button on all pages (of the e-commerce section of our site), so the patron can log in at any time.  We allow people to look for seats while not logged in, but you must log in to _reserve_ a seat (at the point where you click to reserve the seats you are redirected to a login/register screen if you are not already logged in).

As Mark mentioned, a lot of sites use anonymous login to allow users to build a cart first, and only force login/registration at the point of checkout (when addresses and credit cards need to be entered).

On thing to bear in mind, and this is important for us, is that your login status affects your Mode of Sale -- which may cause some events/performances to be available or unavailable.

  • We do this the same way.  www.theatreworks.org

  • Same here.  lajollaplayhouse.org

  • We have the login button/link on all our pages.  It also changes from login to log out respectively.  we do use the anonymous log in as well.

    www.mccarter.org

  • We maintain the log in button on all pages as well. Most of our customers can purchase tickets and log in just before checking out using the anonymous dummy account, but have the option to log in at any stage.

At the same time, we offer additional performances for Schools and Home Educators only. In order to enter the purchase path based on their constituency, they have to log in prior to browsing for perfs.
