Zip Codes with Credit Card Purchase

Hello Tessiturians,

I just read an interesting article about the "requirement" of zip codes with credit card authorizations. It was about a museum using the zip code for tracking purposes. I was wondering if anyone has the zip code requirement turned off in V11 or if there is even a way to do that. Also, is this a PCI compliance issue that we require the zip code (especially when selling in a general public account for walk-up).

Thoughts?

    Chris,

The Science Museum does not capture zip codes as part of our walk-up or telephone credit card authorizations. I believe that doing so does lower your credit card processor fees, and maybe our processor requires it. I am afraid I don’t know what you need do to configure this (we use Transend), as we set-up for this a tour implementation in 2008. I agree, it would be a real hindrance to walk-up, card present transactions! Since then, we have begun asking for zipcodes for most walk-ups, but this is captured outside the card authorization path (in Categories, actually, and we can turn it off or on for busy days).
