We are in the process of implementing TNEW and NSCAN and hope that we will soon be able to include a Pre-order Beverage option online. Do we create a season for 'beverages' that mirrors our performance season or is there a better way? Do you require patrons to bring a pre-paid drink voucher on a given night, or once purchased, can they bring them to any show? I have so many questions. Any advice/suggestions to how best to set this up? Many thanks!

We tried this a couple of years ago. We offered pre-paid beverage tickets where one ticket was redeemable for bottled water and soft drinks and two tickets for house beer and wine (like the carnival midway J). As an incentive, we discounted them a small amount and promised extra “speed” stations available to avoid waiting in a long concession/bar line. The reception was so-so but I know in the future we may try to re-invent it with a different marketing push. Currently we only offer it through group sales as a “value added” option to corporate and tour groups.

Tai,
Depending on how many price types you have, one option to investigate would be using special access areas. What you could do is build the ticket price plus the add-on cost of the drink into a new price type or types, which you would then sell into the regular performance. In your N-Scan setup, you would then create a “special access area” that was keyed to the price type(s) for drink purchases. The patron would present their ticket at the bar, where a scanner set up for access-area scanning validates their barcode, and they get their drink.
This would allow tracking of sales (based on the price type) and also tracking of redemptions (based on the table of scans for the access area), but wouldn’t require a separate season or performances, or extra tickets to get lost or confused.
There’s more info about this in the N-Scan Application Guide.
