Special Character's on Tickets

Hello,

I'm sure this issue has been touched on before in the forums, but since I can't find the search feature, and am on a bit of a time crunch trying to proof the next season I figure it'd be easier to start a new thread. I was wondering if there is a way to get special characters to print via Tessitura. Is it dependant on the version and/or printer? If I use HTML will this appear? We use Boca printers of different model numbers, on version 10 of Tessitura using Window 7 if any or all of that information alters anything.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the probable beating of an already answered topic.

  • Steve,

    Font9 does not have many of the special characters.  I can give you a list of the available characters if you would like.

    We are struggling with this same problem at the moment, and wonder if the root problem is that the fonts we are using simply don't accomodate special characters.

    We use Font 9 for header/address tickets and Font 8 for event ticket text.

    Is it not possible to use special characters with these fonts, or am I missing something else?

    Hi Maurice,

    Here’s a link to the help topic that explains how to print special characters on tickets: http://www.tessituranetwork.com/Help_System/Content/Ticket%20Design/Special%20Characters.htm

    Quick summary, it requires entering the ASCII code for the character when entering the data and then choosing a font that supports the character when adding the data element to your ticket design.

  • Hi Jackie, would you be kind enough to send me your list of characters for Font9?  I can't figure out what's not working for us at the moment.

    Many thanks,

  • Hello again, I have been in touch with BOCA and found some more answers that have solved this problem for me. I hope this is useful to others too.

    There are some characters that don't use the standard USCII codes, as BOCA has replaced certain characters in the set.

    These are (giving Dec codes):

    £ = 96 (or `)
    Ä = 91 (or [)
    Ö = 92 (or \)
    Ü = 93 (or [)
    ä = 123 (or {)
    ö = 124
    ü = 125 (or })

    They will display incorrectly on-screen, but they are printing correctly on our tickets in font 9. I'm not sure if this is because we have an older BOCA machine - but it's a solution!

    As to which fonts can do what:
    Font 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 & 10 support the German characters
    Font 7, 11 & 12 do not support the German characters and will print
    @ [ \ ] { | } ~ ( font 7 only @ [ \ ] )
    Font 8 & 13 support the full International character set
    (Codepage 850/858)
    Font 14 & 15 only support upper case characters (32-95)
    Font 16 only supports the Cyrillic character set

    I have a booklet from BOCA with more detail that I can send on, or post here if there's a way to do that...? I haven't figured that one out yet.

    I was trying to fix a special character problem with our Boca printers and found this post from January. Would you mind sending me a copy of the booklet if you still have it available? Me email address is fmargueirat@national.ballet.ca.

    Thank you
