Hey, Tamara –
We do process donations on ticket orders, over the phone as well as online. We have a specific On Account type set up that the money goes to, and is then coded and processed as a contribution by someone in our Development department. As far as the customer is concerned, it’s one credit card charge on their end – but we don’t book the contribution directly into the Contributions tab on the order itself.

Hello,
We may begin processing donations on ticket orders through our box office. Is anyone else doing this? If so, how are you doing this in Tessitura and what has your experience been so far? Thanks for any feedback!

We have processed contributions through the Box Office both in the actual ticket order with the contributions tab and by putting the money On-Account for the Development team to process later. Initially we really wanted the Box Office to be able to fully complete the contribution, but I think now we have realized it is cleaner if it is processed in the Contribution Module by the Development Office.
One of the issues I had with processing it in the actual ticket order is that the source becomes the same as the source for the ticket order, which wasn't informative when looking at contribution reports. I also created two different On Account types for contributions so it was clear if the gift was for the Annual Campaign or the Capital Campaign.

Hi Tamara,
We process Contributions with ticket orders (mail, phone and online) directly through the Contributions tab in Orders.
Our decision to do this was ease of processing at subscription time – which is really the only time we get donations with bookings. The downsides have been;
· lack of control for acknowledgment letters - ordinarily Philanthropy use a custom field to indicate what sort of letter donors receive based on contribution amount. We now have a generic ‘subs contribution’ letter which goes to anyone with a custom value of zero, regardless of their donation amount.
· simply tracking donations against the subscription campaign overall (as opposed to each subs source code) – we have created a Fund of Company Priorities SUBS, which points to the same GL as our standard Company Priorities, but allows us to easily see the success of the subs campaign for Philanthropy.
· minimal opportunity for subscribers to opt to give to specific Funds
That said, it has all been chugging along quite well and if occasionally there needs to be some manual intervention for a specific gift then so be it.
However, now that we are nearing our V11 implementation we have come up against a bit of a snag, in that our preference is for ticket orders to be processed in the Individual account whereas our Philanthropy team would prefer donations be processed in the Household account. We’re working through how best to deal with this at the moment. Thought I’d just flag that in case it’s a consideration!
Cheers
Amalia
