VIP Add-Ons

I'm trying to set up a VIP add-on for a run of performances.

The performances are fixed seat, with 3 price zones, 300 seats.

The VIP add on is not tied to a specific zone, and is limited to 35 people per event.

So the desire is for people to only be able to add on the VIP experience IF they buy a ticket for the event.

They should only be able to buy the VIP experience that correlates to the day they are attending.

And they shouldn't be able to buy more VIP passes than they have tickets for that performance.

So I'm thinking a pricing rule that makes the VIP experience available as an add-on once a ticket has been purchased to X-event is the way to go.

Has anyone done anything like this?  I've looked through the documentation, but figured I'd ask before diving in.

  • Hi Alan,

The biggest challenge with VIP add-ons and pricing rules is that there isn't any functionality in Tessitura to "force add" something to cart in order to trigger a rule, and rules only fire once line items are added to cart. Pricing rules will help, but the tricky part is curating the purchase path so the patron adds everything to cart correctly. In Pittsburgh, we use a message rule with a hyperlink to seat selection for the matching performance of the add-on to get patrons to buy the correct VIP add on. We have a custom site (Not TNEW) so, we can curate the path a bit, but the Guest Services team still runs reporting to check that patrons with the VIP add on have also purchased tickets to the show.

    Good luck!

  • Not the ideal option you are looking for, but if you ok with 35 specific seats being the VIP seats, you could do it. You would create a new "VIP" price type and a new Allocation. The only price type assigned to the new allocation is the new VIP one. You then assign those 35 specific seats to the new allocation on the performances.

Another idea is a modal pop-up message only pricing rule that has a link to a separate VIP performance with 35 available seats. You'd have a separate pop-up for each main performance linking to the VIP performances. A drawback is that you would need to monitor the sales to the VIP performances and stop the pop-up pricing rule on the performance once you hit the 35 seats sold.

Hopefully, someone else will come up with a better idea for you.

  • I agree with Neil about building a totally separate VIP performance. You could then potentially sell it as part of a Flex Package where the show performance itself would be a required performance within that package. That way you could at least guarantee they are buying a ticket to the matching show. You could use holds to make the VIP performance only have 35 available seats.

The only thing you wouldn't be able to do is the 1-1 rule (1 vip per 1 show ticket). That was the one drawback of this model when we used it for our VIP add ons for parties.

  • The hyperlink to coinciding add on is pretty slick.  If what we're trying now doesn't work that might be an option.  Thanks.
