Scanners in Exit Mode

Hello!  I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced problems with their scanners ending up in exit mode without their ushers noticing.  For some reason this has become a real problem for us.  If anyone has experienced this, can you tell me how you were able to resolve it?  Thanks!

  • We haven't had that issue at the Science Museum, but when I worked for a group of theatres previously we used scanners with the "the-ticketing-system-that-shall-not-be-named" and it seemed to happen quite a bit.  From watching them work, they were accidentally switching modes themselves and we never found a good solution other than training.  We would often review how to switch modes and give the ushers a few troubleshooting tools (i.e. make sure to read and understand the error message) to think through before sending patrons back to the box office.

  • We have found that the ushers will occasionally switch to exit mode by accident. The next ticket they scan will get the "not entered yet" error (whatever it is). Some of the ushers remember what to do in that situations, others do not.

I believe the only way to solve this is more training of the ushers to pay attention to what the scanners are telling them.

I'll also say it would be nice to be able to disable exit mode, or at least make it harder to turn on.
