Allowing Entry on Ticket with invalid barcode

Hopefully, someone here will either be able to help me with this or tell me this concept is no longer necessary with NScan/Tessitura.

Our venue has used scanners before with our old Ticketmaster system.  Sometimes when we needed to perform customer service for someone which involved reprinting the ticket, we had the ability to "unblock" their ticket/seat location from the software so they would be able to enter the theater without any problem.  We used thsi rarely, but odten enough to be a helpful feature.

I have not seen anything to this effect in the NScan documentation, but maybe I've missed it.  Do you have the ability to allow entry on a ticket that has been re-issued (by no fault of the patron)?  Or am I thinking too much about this?  What do other venues do to solve problems like this in a creative way?

Thanks!

  • Our “gatekeepers” have the option of just admitting the patron, as we are all general admission seating in our theater; this precludes having them show up as “attended”. Alternatively, for a sold out performance, the patron is sent to the Box Office for re-ticketing. It is very rare for the patron to bring the original ticket, when they have reprinted, but it does sometimes happen.

  • We do one of two things:

Have the patron go back to the box office to have their ticket reprinted (so that it scans correctly), or just tear the ticket stub and then 1) reprint the ticket again and scan it in after the show starts it gets marked attended, or 2) just mark it attended manually through Season Manager.

We have a few things that happen often to us, and depending on the scenario and how busy the box office is, we don't always make the patrons return to the box office window for new tickets.  We would *always* do that if the ticket a patron presented showed up as "returned" or was for a different performance entirely, but if it's just reprinted or for some reason the scanner can't read the bar code (it's been worn down, etc.), the usher just manually confirms the ticket is for the correct performance, tears the stub, and allows the patron access.
