Can anyone please tell me the advantages of returning/exchanging tickets in a separate order as opposed to using the original order to perform the transaction? We currently have a problem where we can't return tickets for a performance and then book a different performance on the same order if the new performance was set up later than the original one. This means creating a new order which is extra work - but to have a separate order just for the exchange also seems like extra work. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
We have two reasons for using a different order (only the first one may apply to your situation):
1. Order Date controls what is available to add to an order. If we use the original order past shows will show as available and the operator can make a mistake and exchange in to them. Additionally, the individual show (if the original order is a package) may not have been available yet when the original order was created.
2. We use a different MOS of exchanges so that we can further control when they are allowed and we can report the transactions separately.

I absolutely agree that exchanges in separate orders is the way to go for all the reasons listed. You won't regret it.
This came up in discussions here the other day. One of the reasons we like having tickets in the same order is for confirmations - we send out email confirmations all the time, and we like having all of the tickets for a subscription listed in one email.
We also do exchanges in a new order. When you use Return by Ticket No there is no extra work and the exchange can be done much faster.
