Using Many Price Zones

I'm currently working on my presentation for the upcoming webinar, Implementing Revenue Management in Tessitura. Minor spoiler alert, as part of that presentation I'll be talking about giving yourself more flexibility by using more price zones. Building in more flexibility with more zones can create a longer list of zones for your customers to choose from on your website, so you have decide how much flexibility you want vs. how many zones you want your customers to see.  I'm looking for some testimonials from those of you who have decided to go for more flexibility (so 15 or more price zones) and how that's been working for you and your customers.

How happy or unhappy are you with your decision to create more zones? What's the response been from your customers? Any recommendations or caveats you would share with others about using more zones? And most importantly for me right now, would you mind if I use some screenshots from your website in my presentation?

Thanks in advance for any experience you can share, and hopefully I'll see many of you in the audience next week!

  • Hi Kevin,

We've had a number of zones for a few years now and are up to 22 zones at our main theatre this year. We've never had any issues with it and it allows us a lot of flexibility with yield management. We've not had any issues online.

  • HI Kevin:
We use 21 zones for our standard layout, six of which are solely dedicated for ADA.

However, in the past two seasons I've added seven zones that start as 'inactive' and are simply marked 'tbd1', 'tbd2' etc.  I activate these based on inventory need.  Because the zone is in all price maps, and active only when you make it active, we have the ability to show it to those we want to see it.  We rename it 'Special Price 1' and add the price we think will help our overall big picture.

It reports perfectly, including our Availability Potential Income reports.

Please let me know if you'd like more info.

    All the best,

    Mark

    Kevin,

The museum uses zones, but in a different way from most other organizations, and not primarily for revenue management. If information about our use would be useful to your purpose, feel free to contact me directly.

  • Hi Kevin,

Not that this is much help at this point (since your presentation is tomorrow) but we use 20 zones on a regular basis. It's great for us in being able to adjust pricing for smaller areas of the house. I think our patrons have figured it out as well.

    Best,
