I need help is granting a user group access to the hold code area under the season maintenance. It is currently greyed out.

The security objects for Season Maintenance all start with "Season Maint", plus "Season Mgr Season Maintenance". You'll find the security object for the Holds tab in there.
The other thing to remember is that the Holds tab will stay greyed out until the performances you are working with are all in the same venue. Unfortunately this doesn't display in the search results, so you may have to crawl through performance by performance in ticketing setup until you find the discrepancy, if indeed you are only working with events that are (supposed to be) in the same venue.
