Copying Price Layers

This is perhaps a feature request, but I wanted to float the question of whether there is a way to accomplish what I want to do.

Basically, when I add a price layer to a performance, I want to begin with an exact copy of one of the already existing price layers.  Then I'll change prices and start/end dates.  But things like default gl codes, specific price type gl codes, default/specific designations, default ticket design seem like they should stay the same 90% of the time.

The specific thing I'm trying to accomplish is to create a layer for each performance (called "Day of Show") which adds a specific amount to each price, say $2, starting on the day of the performance.  I don't want to have to dig through our long lists of gl codes, designations, ticket designs, etc when setting up the layer.  Ideally I'd want to be able to have a one button "copy" that would just create a duplicate of the current layer, just asking for a new layer type.  Or it would be nice if, when creating a new layer, the defaults were set to whatever the previously created layer for that performance was.

But is there a way to get this to happen, or something close to it, using the currently available tools?

Thanks,

Gawain

  • Gawain, could this be accomplished with a Price Event? You can find the documentation here:

  • Gawain,

As Micheal suggested, if you only need to increment the prices but want to maintain all of the surrounding structure, an event seems like the answer here.  But just to go a bit further.. If you have several changes including designs and GLs but want to start from a common setup, then you might also want to investigate templates.  You could create a template when pricing is first defined.  Then apply that template again when you want to add another layer and make changes from there.  I know that sometimes it is the case where organizations decide to make changes later down the line.  If this is the case you can use the context menu on the grid and select "Save Layer as Template"  Then you could apply the saved template to your new layer.

    Hope this helps,

  • I was hoping to use Templates but, and this may be a peculiarity of us: we use a different GL code for every production season, and we're a presenter, and we do rentals, and we sell for a couple of other organizations on campus, so we have ~100 GLs for each of our 3-4 active fiscal years (on top of various and sundry GLs for non-ticket monies).  So every time we'd need to go through and fix the default GL codes for sale and resale, which is the main thing I want to spare the box office.

The event might be the best thing, but in this case we have to go through and edit every line, either changing every price, or opening, setting and running a calculation on every line.  If I was setting every row to $2 in each section I could fix one row then copy/paste the others.

Also, shame you can't copy/paste more than one row at a time...
