We're having a really hard time with the 30 character limit on performance titles and it's becoming a huge issue at our organization. (Next season's performance of Alice Through the Looking Glass is becoming Alice Through the LookingGlass) I'm wondering if there are other organizations that deal with this same issue and what you've done to get around the problem. It seems every season we have at least one performance title longer than 30 characters and our Director's Office is rightfully getting annoyed with having to short form production names.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
We abbreviate ours using shortened versions that are easy for the box office to see and use. So for yours, we might put Looking Glass or Alice or something shortened like that. We use different fields for printing on tickets and we use separate fields for TNEW, so it doesn't cause any problems for us. Let me know if you have more questions in regards to this setup.
We break up the long titles into two rows and enter the second row of information in a Ticket Text field in Production Elements.
We then have a special ticket design for that show which would print the Ticket Text field below the Performance Description.
We are similar to Jared - we've reserved a line in the ticket text on the performance (one of the last lines) that is our 'alternate title'. If that is filled out our tickets use that, if it isn't, it uses the standard title. This works for the most part unless we are doing something like The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe. Then all bets are off and we actually have a special 'long title' ticket design we attach to that production.
