research docs - excel problem

We are on Office 2007 and I just uploaded an excel file to Research-Docs in a constituent account.  When I try to open it, it looks like an older version of excel is being used as the default program and it is unable to read the document.

Is there a way to fix this or will this be fixed in V.11?

Just a thought…it might be using the version of Excel that is installed on the Tessitura server itself?

  • Thanks Penny,

Were's actually on RAMP so I can't really speak to that...

  • Dale,

This is a RAMP issue and RAMP does use an older version of Excel.  We have had similar problems.  It is my understanding that RAMP cannot upgrade because not all of their clients are upgraded or plan to upgrade and they are trying to support the largest numbers of clients.  But perhaps RAMP has a different answer now.

I wonder if RAMP could install the Microsoft Office compatibility packs to allow their old version of Office to open documents created in newer versions?  We had to do this at work when we were running Office 2003, and we’d get documents from patrons using Office 2007.
