Good evening fellow Tessitura Administrators.
There has been an idea I've discussed with a few folks during the previous conferences and in conversations between times. The notion of a gathering specifically aimed at folks like us. SQL junkies, report writers, system administrators. In short, the folks who keep our organizations up and running and help to make Tessitura the global leader in arts administration software.
Now, a small group of us are putting together plans to try and make the idea a reality. Myself, Carli Webb (Playmakers Repertory Theater), and Teresa Dean (AT&T Performing Arts Center) have been trying to lay the ground work for a weekend retreat to take place the third weekend in November. For location, we have selected Nashville, TN.
The plan for the event would be to arrive on the evening of Friday November 18th. On Saturday there would be 6 hours of sessions with breaks for meals and a social outing that evening. On Sunday morning, a brunch and one last chance to talk with peers before everyone departs for home. Some of the topics we have tossed out for session ideas are:
- V11 items (Custom List builder items, Local documentation needs, User training plans, Best practices, etc)
- SSRS
- Tricks, Tips, and favorite scripts
- T-Stats uses and customizations
It is comepletely up in the air at this point whether the Saturday agenda would take the form of workshops, discussions, presentations or a combination of these.
We are very excited about the possibilities for a Tessitura Administrators Summit. Now we'd like to gauge the interest of the wider community of administrators and perhaps solicit some help with planning. The biggest question is, how many people might have serious interest in attending? 10? 20? Even more? Having a sense of this will help immensely with our process moving forward. Some of our next steps include securing space and resources in Nashville and getting the Saturday agenda in place.
If the idea of a few days with your peers from around the the Tessitura community appeals to you, chime in! There is no registration process at the moment and responding does not commit you to anything. We just want to get a sense of what size of an event this could potentially be. I know that even with a handful of administrators in one place, there is much gain to be had for everyone.

Levi,
Sounds like a great idea! I'm all for it as long as there's enough admins to provide good conversation and collaboration. Keep me posted as this develops and let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Sounds to me like it could be great! I’m interested in your vision about what makes this different from what we already have at the annual TLCC – what’s the specific added value, or the unmet need you’re trying to address? It probably sounds like a question with an obvious answer, but I’m just looking for more clarity on what excites you, Carli, and Teresa about this so I can understand more about what you’re going for.
That said, I agree with David. I’m probably in if we get a critical mass and I can figure out a way to make the time and expense work. Let me know if I can help with anything.

If we can find a way to make resources work, Portland Center Stage is very interested in this. I do wonder if it would be less expensive to fly at a time not so close to Thanksgiving. My personal experience is that flights in January are almost half the price of flights in late November and all of December (just throwing it out there).
Do keep us posted as this develops further!
Thanks,
Boann
Kirk,
That is a great question and one worth more discussion. For me personally my biggest struggle with TLCC is that I am often sent as a proxy for other departments. Because I am familiar with all departments and their needs, I find myself with a list of desired takeaways that often have nothing to do with my actual job.
I learn an enormous amount at TLCC, but many sessions and most of my lab time, I am trying to answer best practice questions put to me by users who were not able to attend rather than focusing on the strictly technical sessions.
Our committee (such as it is) will put our heads together a bit this week and see if we can't articulate the distinction a little more concretely.
I like this idea very much and would try to attend. Unfortunately, I already have a number of travel plans for the Fall and as this would come out of my own personal budget - not the company's - I'm not sure I could swing it financially. If it does happen though, I will seriously give it some thought. Dale
Thanks for the insight! I look forward to hearing more from the committee!

Wow, this is indeed a really great idea. I know for sure though that for me to attend would, like Dale, involve money coming out of my pocket and to arrive on the Friday I would be using one of my vacation days, which I would be fine with though. TLCC is the only Tess outing in our company's budget.
If this does go ahead, have you considered the opportunity for those of us not in attendance to read discussion feedback, documentation, session presentations, etc? Perhaps a new Group can be set up on this website for this purpose?
Hurrahs to Levi, Carli and Teresa for putting this in motion.
Duane
Duane,
I think think this would involve personal resources for a lot of us. Budgets being what they are these days. But, like you, I don't mind too much for the chance to sit in a room with this community.
Since we are talking to a bunch of tech types, I'm sure whatever materials and or discussions are had can be recorded for posterity. Read an announcement yesterday that Google+ had plans to allow broadcasting and recording of Hangouts, which would be ideal if it was available. But I'm sure something can be rigged up. Heck, the iPhone 4 (or 5, or an iPad) is almost the only tool many folks need anymore.
And the idea of a group for this is spot on. As soon as we get a couple more conversations out of the way, we will begin to get the resources in place.
Stay tuned. We hope to have some updates coming in the next 7 days or so at the latest.
Sounds like a great idea Levi and for the same reasons you express, but not practical for us foreigners obviously (although I am seeing Dolly Parton that weekend, so I’ll be in Nashville in spirit …)
Hope it works out, and very interested to see any collateral that might result..

Thanks Levi, and those working on this project! What a cool idea.
It's sounding like I might be able to make it provided it all comes together.
Cheers!
What a great idea. Thanks to all who are working on putting this together! I will definitely attend if this happens.
Jeff
Thank you all for your interest and your questions. That is exactly what we needed to hear!
The three of us will put our heads together again over the weekend and next week we can offer up some more concrete details and ways for folks to participate who want to help out with the planing.
Looking forward to watching things come to fruition!
I, like Peter, will be there in spirit.
Although do let us know if you manage to sort out a Google+ hangout or similar.
Adriana
Can this be done over the network in some way?
I wish we could do a 100 way skype type call or something for us that are not able to travel to Nashville, TN.
Tom,
I'm not sure if Google+ will have the feature released to the public by November, but they have announced that Google+ hangouts will include broadcast and recording capabilities. This would be my ideal circumstance (assuming the cost is not prohibitive). We will definitely keep our eyes open for opportunities to connect people to the content of the weekend in real time.
