Memberships in History

One of my colleagues in Development asked me something I'm not entirely clear about:  I have a number of customer records under the Memberships radial button on the History tab that have a Current Status of Inactive but also have the little check mark graphic next one of the memberships.  Does the check mark not mean that it's an active membership or does it merely designate the most recent one regardless of status?

Any advice would be helpful so I can put this woman's fevered mind at rest.

On this day in history: Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (1953)

    This is something that we have experienced too. Its like the membership is the active (current one) whilst being inactive as it has expired. This normally comes to our attention when the customer tries to book and their renewed membership is yet to start because the previous one is still active when it should have become fully inactive and the new membership should have started.

    Has anyone else come across this, the reason and is there a solution?

    The red checkmark appears next to a Membership on the History/Memberships tab when the cur_record column in the TX_CUST_MEMBERSHIP table row for the Membership has a value of 'Y'.  This indicates that the membership is a Current membership where the status is one of the following:

     

    -- Active

    -- Awaiting Payment

    -- Suspended

    -- Lapsed

     

    For all other Membership statuses, the cur_record value should be 'N' in which case the checkbox should not appear.  Is it possible that Memberships that display the checkbox but which are not in a current status were converted records that may have had the cur_record column imported with the incorrect value?

     

    Network Support will be happy to help you if you find non-current memberships that have a cur_record value of 'Y' and therefore display the checkbox next to the Membership so please submit a TASK help ticket if you need advice.

    You might want to double-check your Membership Update report schedule.  I believe that utility is what moves your memberships from "active" status to the various other options within that table.  Perhaps you are only running it occasionally, and you've just now stumbled across some records which haven't been updated yet?  We have memberships that expire every day, so the Update report is scheduled to run nightly to avoid just this problem.  (Item #1 on my Next Gen wishlist for membership functionality: don't make us run a utility to get these changes to happen!)
