boca printers

I have two Boca printers, both of which are now either spitting out two blank tickets arbitrarily between legitimate ticket printing, or spitting out half a ticket and jamming.  I'm trying to determine if I should take on the expense of shipping one of the printers back to Boca Systems to be serviced/repaired or if I should just invest in a new printer.  Can anyone shed any light as to whether this may just be a characteristic of an aging Boca printer, or am I just lucky enough that both printers happen to be malfunctioning in the same manner.

Thanks!

  • You know, mine was doing stuff like that a week ago – I just had one of our facilities engineers clean out all the dust and other crap inside and it seems to be working much better. Apparently the floor under my desk is not the best habitat for a Boca. J

I’ve also heard tell that the expense of sending things back to Boca for repair is much greater than getting a new one.

  • We've actually replaced the print head as recently as August of this year, so I'm less inclined to believe that is the source of the problem, unless it's a faulty part that worked fine for the first two+ months and then went bad.  The ticket stock is a new order for the season, also received in August, but it's no different that what we had last year, plus it too didn't cause any negative effects for the first two+ months of having it.  Additionally, we've tried using old stock for testing, and we get the same results.

We also have regularly used canned air to blow out the dust from the printer, as that has worked to solve issues in the past.  It just doesn't seem to be providing the same time of resolution any more.
