boca not being recognized as a printer

Hi,

We are trying to install a boca (via usb, not networking anything), and it is not being recognized as a printer.  If I remember correctly, there's something that can be off with drivers?  Does anyone have any thoughts about how to force the boca to be recognized?

  • I had a similar issue yesterday in Windows 10. Tried removing everything (port, printer and drivers) using the Local Administrator account and still it would not work. Couldn't remove the port, so I had to go into the registry, because Windows was using the saved keys, and remove them. Once the port was removed, I started over. Here are the steps I took:

    1. Connected the printer via USB and turned it on.

    2. Once the printer installed, I went into the Printers dialog (Settings --> Devices --> Printers dialog).

    3. Here I added a printer (had to select "The printer that I want isn't listed).

    4. Selected the New Port radio button and chose "Local."

    5. Selected the Generic/Text Only driver.

    6. Gave the printer a name.

    7. When asked to share the printer, selected the option that didn't share it.

    8. Completed the setup and ran a test page.

    Once all that was done, the printer worked. It was a big hassle and Boca's can be just that. Not because it's a Boca, but because Window's is trying to be helpful.

    To remedy the immediate situation, I had them swap out the troublesome boca with a different one, which connected no problem (go figure).  But we *didn't* go into the registry, so I might try that when I have the misbehaving boca back at my desk and some free time to play with it.  

  • For the record, I absolutely HATE having to resort to editing registry keys. But, sometimes it just can't be helped.

    If you find a workaround that doesn't require registry editing, please post it here.
