Zebra TC20 install

Hello everyone,

Has anyone created a better install document for the Zebra TC20 scanners? The install documentation provided by Tessitura is NOT helpful and is WAY out of date.

Christopher Cuhel

  • Hi Chris --

I don’t have the documentation, but I did just provision a test TC20 that we purchased to evaluate vs. the TC51.

Happy to walk you through the setup while it’s still fresh in my mind.  The only thing I found to be missing from the documentation was detailed information on installing the Zebra Enterprise Home Screen Utility for Android, which locks down the device, much the same way that the Windows Motorola Devices could be locked down to just one application.

    Cheers,

  • From Googling things to asking an Android phone person...I got most everything figured out (the documentation for NSCAN installation is VERY out of date...it doesn't reference Windows10 and Android is close to releasing version 9....the documentation was back from version 4). Now I can't get NSCAN to recognize the NScan profile that is added through DataWedge.

  • You have to inactivate the other profiles and leave only the Nscan DataWedge profile active.  Also, in Nscan Admin settings, under System, change the Scanner from (None) to "Scanner".

I have 10 brand new TC20's I'm just getting set up.  If there's anything odd specific to Windows 10, please share.  We're on Win 7 now, but moving to 10.

    Thank you,

    ...Dave

  • Hi Christopher, Daniel and David!

We are looking to purchase new scanners here over the summer, and the TC20's have just popped up on my radar. Could anyone here speak to their experiences with this model so far?

Battery life, wifi connectivity, mobile scanning, staff adoption, etc.?

Daniel, I'm extremely inerested in your findings re: TC20 v.s. TC51.

Anything at all is helpful, and the Install documentation issues are noted!

    Thanks,

    Sydney Peloquin

  • Hey Sydney,

We haven't started scanning yet as this is our last month on our legacy system. We are fully live on July 1 (and happen to have a show that day we have to scan. huzzah). As for the devices, they feel rather durable (although a little light). The straps for them are useless. I would highly recommend you budget for the triggers. The new triggers are not anything like the old Senseo triggers (seriously...when the TC20 is placed on the trigger, it looks like a Star Trek phaser). Setup took some time (approximately 3 weeks total...this of course with days where I couldn't focus on the install). The documentation for NSCAN is rather out of date and has not been updated in awhile. I'm happy to send you my NSCAN install document I made. It is entirely just to get NSCAN on the TC20's. If you are a RAMP organization, make sure you've read the help documentation and ensured they have everything setup for you on their end. I also highly recommend putting the Enterprise Home Screen on the devices. This allows you to lock down the device so only NSCAN is available to house staff. I'm happy to email that to you as well.

If you are going to TLCC, I'd be happy to meetup and chat through anything. By that point we will have had some scans in in two of our three theater spaces (one being 2000-ish seats) and I'll have some real word use experience for you as well. My email is ccuhel@thesmithcenter.com if you want to reach out for my document and that link for the Enterprise Home Screen.

    - Chris

  • Good afternoon,
Would you mind sending me the enterprise home screen information?
    Thanks

  • Hi Christopher - I'm running MC40s here, I wonder if you know if the Enterprise Home Screen works on those as well, and if it does, if you would mind emailing your notes on the Enterprise Home Screen install. We won't be moving to the TC20 in a hurry but I would like to lock down our current scanners if possible. Thank you - Justin

  • The Enterprise Homescreen is made by Zebra for their scanner products, I believe. If the MC40 is a Zebra scanner, it should work. If you'd like it, let me know and I'll email you the link.

  • fwiw - I uploaded our instructions for setting up the TC20's including Enterprise Home Screen.

  • I guess my file upload didn't go anywhere.  I'm not sure where we upload files these days, this new site still seems goofy to me in some ways.  Anyway - I'm happy to send my setup doc to anyone.  Just send me your email address.  I'm at dvivino@clevelandorchestra.com.

    Thanks!

    Daniel,

Can you provide any updates as to the functionality and pros/cons to both the TC20 and TC51....trying to figure out which model to purchase!  Thanks!
