Can anyone direct me to some documentation for configuring a Boca printer (Lemur) to print from a Word document? I've done some investigating on the Boca website, other forums, and just troubleshooting on my own...but no luck. I'm definitely on the elementary level when it comes to tech-savviness, so bear with me.
Or perhaps I'm attempting something that is not possible or going about it in the wrong way- I'm basically trying to come up with a "code red" back-up plan for printing generic tickets in the event that Tessitura/RAMP is down and we can't access the system to print tickets.
Katie,
I don't know if you can print from a word document but I believe you can print from notepad if the contents are in FGL. An easy way to see an example of this formatting for a ticket is to print an actual ticket but set the printer such that it doesn't delete the .SHD and .SPL files from your computer after printing.
1. Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers2. Right-click on your printer and select Printer Properties > Advanced Tab > check "Keep Printed Documents"
After you print a ticket, you will see 2 files created in C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS for that order. The .SPL file contains all of the details of the tickets you just printed. I believe you should be able to print directly from that document but I haven't tested it since I don't have a printer handy.
Don't forget to uncheck "Keep Printed Documents" after you do this test so your PRINTERS folder doesn't get filled up with files.

Hi Katie,
I'd highly recommend printing dummy tickets from Test for each perf in advance of the performance. We do this at Cincinnati Ballet and I did it when I was with the Gilmore Keyboard Festival in Kalamazoo, Mich. It may seem like a waste of ticket stock, but it's a lifesaver when RAMP (or the internet) goes down.
If you message me with your email address, I'm happy to send you the Business Continuity presentation I did at the OINK TUG meeting as well as a screen shot of our dummy ticket design so you can set one up in Tessitura.
Sara
As Dale said, it is probably easier to do this from Notepad instead of Word. You'll need a text file with the FGL codes embedded, they look like HTML elements. The Tessitura Network sent me a test file a long while back, and I use it specifically for testing outside of Tessitura, by printing it to the BOCA through Notepad. I'd copy and paste the file here, but since the FGL code will be treated as HTML elements, here is a link to download it instead: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pk0cycnqh5hy561/BOCA%20Test%20Ticket%20from%20Tessitura.txt?dl=1
It is just a plain text file, and I can't see why you wouldn't be able to edit and customize it for whatever you want it to print.
Hi Sara!
Yes, would love to see that presentation. khetrick@spoletousa.org
Thank you so much!
I just emailed it to you Katie. Have a great day!
Tim! Thank you for sharing that. I was able to manipulate it into something that I'm confident will work for us. Hopefully I'll never have to use it, but I will certainly owe you one if I do.
And yes, printing from Test in advance was certainly going to be my backup if I couldn't figure out how to print from an outside application. Thankfully Tim got me in the right direction with Notepad.
Thanks for this Tim, this will help us as well.
Hi all, apologies for digging up an old thread. How do you print your "dummy" tickets out of Tessitura? I couldn't find a way to do this except for batch printing orders in TEST to our "dummy" design.
