Upgrading from Windows server 2003 to 2012

Hello all,

I'm aware we have left this late and it's also a bit of a nebulous request but we are upgrading our Tessitura server, seat, payment and report servers from windows server 2003 to 2012 due to the end of life support. I wanted to ask if anyone else had done this type of project before and may have any advice or tips.

We obviously can't do an in-place upgrade as the 2003 boxes are 32 bit so are planning to build a new 2012 boxes and install SQL 2008R2 on then and move from the old machine to the new one. We are a virtual environment so will obviously be taking snapshots which we can fall back on if needed.

Any experiences or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

We did a similar upgrade earlier this year, i.e. new consolidated VMs, with upgraded OS, .Net, etc.. TIM makes this pretty simple, actually, though there are still a few ini files that require hand editing. Making sure the DNS pointed to the new servers at the crucial moment was probably the fiddly-est part of the upgrade here.

  • Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply. The DNS side does worry me a bit although we are working on a test environment that should provide some guidance.
