Social Networking Usage Policies

How do people deal with Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc. in your computer usage policies? This is coming up for us a lot lately with people posting during work hours. Our box office agents are using it a lot during down times. Just wondering how strict you are about this and what your policy is.

  • It is not possible to access social networking sites from within our network, it is completely locked down (apart from 3 people in our Marketing Team who manage our Facebook Fan Site and Twitter account).

Our Call Centre only have access to the websites that they need to fulfill their roles whilst at their desks or on or Counter positions. There are Mess Room computers about the building that have more access to other sites that they can use during their breaks to check web mail etc.

We also have the same policy the Internet is there for work purposes and should not be abused. Sites that are deemed to be unsuitable (illegal, pornographic, gambling) are locked down and cannot be accessed anyway.

Our HR department in currently reviewing our HR policy to update it etc.
