Copying constituent records

Is it possible to copy a constituent's record?  In order to key in the name of a child's parent, I have to open up a new constituent record and key in the same information again before I can create an Association. Does anyone know a shortcut?

  • Anne, there is not a way to copy a record as you are describing. However, I noticed that you mentioned parents and children. Typically, families are created as Household accounts, where a master household record holds the shared information like home address, and Affiliations (which are different than Associations) link individuals to the household account. When creating Affiliations, it's much easier to add new individuals and it's not necessary to re-type shared information. You can find the details of household accounts in the documentation on constituent records found here:

  • Anne -

There is a shortcut for organizations, but not households/individuals as you describe. The organization shortcut works when you open an organization account, then add an affiliation. You can type in a name, then click "Create Constituent" and it will copy the org's primary contact info, I believe.

More details here under "Adding a New Constituent from an Affiliation" - in case this helps anyone else looking for a "shortcut".  :)
