Server requirements

I have been reviewing the Server Preparation for v11 Upgrade document, which has been very helpful. The document refers to OS requirements for the application (gateway) server; however, it does not seem to mention OS requirements for other components, like the seat server, credit card server, etc.

Our current v10 environment uses Windows Server 2003. We are in the midst of a virtualization project and we will ultimately redeploy all Tessitura components on Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual servers. However, in order to migrate to v11 in a timely fashion, we may need to prioritize (i.e. if we can migrate some servers post-v11, that might be useful).

So, my question is this... Can some components, like the seat server and credit card server, remain on Windows Server 2003, or is Windows Server 2008 a minimum requirements for all Tessitura-related servers?

I appreciate your help!

Thanks,
David

    David,

It is technically just the Application Server (the server that will run the new REST Services) that needs to be Windows 2008, mainly because we require IIS 7.x.  Other servers are able to run either Windows 2003 or 2008 so long as they have the full version of .Net Framework 4.0 installed.

David, for Tessitura v11, the Web Gateway/Application server(s) must run on Windows 2008 Server, and although the database server can be run under Windows 2003 Server it is recommended that Windows 2008 Server be deployed for the database server.  The Seat, Credit Card and Report servers can continue to run on the same machines with v11 as with v10.  Here’s a link to the Tessitura Hardware Requirements documentation that I hope will be helpful.

  • Thank you, Bob. Sorry, I had forgotten that the hardware requirements document was updated to v11.

  • Ron,

I'm starting to work on the workstations reguirement for .NET 4.

During last weeks advanced server session you mentioned.

"A full installation is required; the client profile version is not sufficient.
To check that the full version of the .NET Framework 4.0 is installed follow the directions from the Microsoft Knowledgebase matching your system to the configuration to the .NET Framework of 4 – Full in the table."

What are the requirements for the client computer.  Can one use a "Client Profile" in those cases OR do you have to use the "Full Version"?  If so can you provide a bit more information in order for us to understand if we have met the requirements?

    Thanks.

    Tom,

You do need the full version of .Net 4.0 on workstations running the Tessitura client application.  The way I check workstations is to simply open Control Panel and go to where you uninstall programs.  In the list of currently installed programs be sure you see Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended.  The full version of .Net 4 is available for Windows XP and beyond.

  • Tom,

The full version of .NET Framework 4 is required for the Tessitura client machines as well.

  • Tom -

This is from the Server Prep doc (which I'm not sure if you have access to or not so I'll just copy and paste the piece here).

.NET Framework 4.0 is required for all servers and client machines running any Tessitura component.  This includes the application server, database server, component servers (report, seat, credit card servers), client (end-user) machines, and terminal servers if applicable.  To install the .NET Framework 4.0, install the latest build from the Microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/net/download and download from the “For Server and Development” section.

NOTE:  A full installation is required; the client profile version is not sufficient.
