InfoMaker 12.5

According to the Preparing for Version 11 page (http://www.tessituranetwork.com/network/Products/New%20Technology%20Initiative/v11%20Prep.aspx), InfoMaker 12.1 is required. However, 12.5 appears to be the most recent release according to Sybase. Will InfoMaker 12.5 also work? We would prefer to deploy the most up-to-date version, but didn't want to do so if it wasn't supported or there was some known incompatibility.

Thanks,
David

  • Thanks. It helps a lot to understand the whole process. Anyway, this also means, if my machine breaks down or if I get a new machine, in that case I have to un-register the old machine from Sybase product distribution site before I can install and run InfoMaker on the new machine.

Yes, as you've noticed, Sybase has changed their software licensing technology since version 10.5. To clarify, this means there are two methods you can use to run Sybase a workstation:

    1. Unserved or Stand-alone: this requires the generation of a file specific to the machine on which you wish to run Infomaker. This consumes one license permanently for each machine. You generate this file using the Sybase website by providing the information you listed, which Infomaker then imports. Under this model, Sybase allows one "alternative use" license per user, to be used on a second machine (such as the user's laptop), as long as the two copies of Infomaker are never used concurrently. Generating these files is done on the Sybase product distribution website. Under this model, InfoMaker will only run on machines licensed with a license file matching the machine name and host id.

    2. Served: this requires the installation of a licensing service on a machine accessible to all workstations running Infomaker. The installer for this service is found on the Infomaker media in the Support folder, named "Standalone SySAM Installer". This allows licenses to be shared among different machines, and limits concurrent usage to the number of licenses purchased.  At sites where there are potentially more InfoMaker users than licenses purchased, this is the most flexible model.

Further information about the new licensing can be found at:

    http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.sybase.sybooks.help.im.12.0/title.htm

    http://infocenter.sybase.com/help/index.jsp?topic=/com.sybase.dc00530_0200/html/sysamug/title.htm

    3. Regarding the required patch version: there are several 12.1 patches available. The correct EBF is build 6950, and can be downloaded from the EBFs Maintenance page on Sybase's website (click on InfoMaker, then EBF 19549: 12.1 (6950)):

    http://downloads.sybase.com/swd/base.do?client=support

For compatibility with Tessitura version 11, you must run this EBF version.

Thanks Ryan for the clarification. Anyway, getting the license key is another story – Primary or Alternative >> Served or Un-Served >> Quantity >> If Un-Served give Node Host ID and Host Name, if Served give Server Host ID, Host Name and Port Number. Why it has to be so difficult? I don’t remember going through this process during the previous upgrade (v10.5). Does anybody have any clue? Thanks!

Good point to clarify in documentation.  PowerBuilder and Infomaker new releases have always been historically on the whole and half version increment (12.0, 12.5, e.g).  Maintenance releases are always in between.

And then they throw you for a loop…the next version after 12.5 will be v15!  Why?  13, 14 are seen as bad luck.

    Hey Mo -

There's a patch you should be able to download from the Sybase site under the Support section - EBF/Maintenance. That should take you up to 12.1. Here's a link from Sybase help.

Hi Ryan, I can see many discussions on InfoMaker v12.1 but when we got our latest InfoMaker from Sybase they supplied us with only v12 and 12.5. We don't see any v12.1. So we are wondering is it ok if we just upgrade to v12 for NextGen or there is actually an intermediate version 12.1 which we are missing and we should ask Sybase about it?

    Thanks for any help.

  • Will someone please let Programmer's Paradise know that they shouldn't be sending out link to 12.5 for clients purchasing for Tessitura, since that's what they sold us, and what I've installed and now I have to see if we can downgrade to 12.1.

  • You can go back and download the 12.1 version.  I did the same thing.  No extra cost.

We typically wait a period of time before adopting the latest  version of PowerBuilder, which our main client application is built, to ensure stability in the platform.  Since 12.5 was just released, we decided it was not worth the risk of upgrading with all of the other moving pieces in the Tessitura v11 upgrade.

The version of Infomaker used for custom reports/screens must be compiled in the same version of PowerBuilder used in the client.  Out current working version of Powerbuilder and Infomaker is v12.1.

Infomaker 12.5 will not work (or be supported) with Tessitura v11.

I believe you must purchase a license for 12.5 because that's the most current version; however, with that license, your download link should also offer previous versions. All our internal purchases of Infomaker show both 12.5, and a "Previous Versions" tab that offers Infomaker downloads all the way back to version 8.0. The version you will want to install is 12.0.

I'm afraid that, if you've installed 12.5, you must uninstall it completely if you wish to install 12.0.

After that installation succeeds, you must also install the Infomaker patch to bring the version to 12.1.6950. This can be downloaded from the Sybase support website, under EBFs/Maintenance. This patch must be installed to be compatible with Tessitura version 11.

    Hope this helps.

  • I'm hashing up this old conversation thread to get a confirmation of which version of InfoMaker we should be on now.  v12.5 has been out for a year so it is okay to install if we're on Tessitura v11.4?

  • Tessitura v11 (all versions) and the upcoming v12.0 use Infomaker 12.1 and is not compatible with Infomaker v12.5.

  • Steven,

Any interest in updating this and turning it into a knowledgebase article or something? There's very little information about acquiring infomaker and the install process on the TN website proper.

Wanted to let you know of some additional information: It appears as though stand-alone licenses will NOT install on any machine running Remote Desktop Services, even just as an administrator connected to a server.

Also, there appears to be an ability to "Check In" a license after you have generated it, allowing you to generate a new one. This way if you generate a stand-alone license in error, you can go back and generate the correct license without having to resort to your alternate.

  • Hi Stephen,

I have a question on the Infomaker Served License Install.

I access Infomaker over RDP which requires the serviced licence. It gives an error if try to run it over RDP with standalone license.

I installed the SYSAM licence server fine on my old Windows 2008R2 server. However, we have upgraded our servers to Windows Server 2012R2.

The SYSAM 2.2 install doesn't seem to work with Windows Server 2012.

All the links to Sybase downloads seem to be redundant and just link to the SAP homepage.

Do you know if there is an updated Sybase license server for Windows 2012 and do you have a download for this?

I also spoke to SAP Support who said I need to talk to my reseller and my reseller said because Infomaker 12 is an old product I don't have a SAP customer number so I can't access their download pages!

    many thanks,

    Dara

  • Have a very specific question. I'm on Tessi v11.04 and have Infomaker 12.0.

I need to make some cosmetic/wording changes to some reports.

Is it OK to use Infomaker 12.0 ? - it won't make the modified reports unusable by Tesitura 11.04 ?!?

    Thanks

    John Grigaitis

  • Hi John,

The version of Infomaker should match the version of PowerBuilder used in the version of Tessitura.  For Tessitura v11 through 12.5, we use Powerbuilder 12.1.  Infomaker 12.0 will probably work, but you should be using Infomaker 12.1 to work with datawindows in Tessitura v11.0.4 (all the way up to Tessitura v12.5).
