What is an apporpriate way to deal with multiple patrons that subscribe on only one account? For example, we have Mr. & Mrs. Smith on one account that subscribe with Mr. & Mrs. Jones on their account. Payment for the subscriptions have been maintained in the Jones' record, contributions are entered in their respective records.
We have used Associations to associate the two records, then I've added the names in each others account in Aliases, but I don't know if that is the best solution.
Any advice would be appreciated.
We just use associations with the association type of Shared Subscription. On the notes, we’ll indicate what subscription they have since we have multiple packages available. For example, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith shares their Broadway with Mr. and Mrs. John Doe and their Cabaret with their son, Mr. John Smith Jr. We always keep the history with the patron that started the subscription.
If they are starting at the same time, and have actually let us know that they are looking to share, we strongly recommend that they each get their own subscription so they keep their own histories because subscriptions are non-transferrable. In this instance, we would use the association type of Seat With (with the particular subscription noted) and a flag shows up on the record header so we know to always look at associations when we come across a record that has it.
